Sing 2 is the computer-animated 2021 sequel to the surprise 2016 hit Sing. Sing 2 follows many characters from the original, but also introduces a number of new characters that bring added depth, fun, and of course, singing, to the movie. The Sing 2 cast is big and has many well-known actors lending their vocal talents for all to hear.

The key to the original Sing and the sequel as well is the star-studded cast they brought along for a music-filled movie. On that end, the big names more than held up their end of the bargain.

While many in the Sing 2 cast also showed off their musical chops, the soundtrack offered an amazing list of vocal talent as well. These artists included Sir Elton John, Billie Eilish, Kiana Ledé, Mercury Rev, Kygo, Bomba Estéreo, and U2. Now, though, we are going to turn our attention to the returning cast and the newbies that brought Sing 2 to life.

Sing 2 Cast

THE RETURNING SING 2 CAST INCLUDES REESE WITHERSPOON, MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY, AND SCARLETT JOHANSSON

Rosita – Reese Witherspoon

Leading the Sing 2 vocal cast is Reese Witherspoon, reprising her role as Rosita, a pig and mother to 25 piglets. The first film followed Rosita, who gave up on her singing dreams to become a devoted housewife, and now we find Rosita still the devoted housewife, but also finally following her dreams as well. Reese Witherspoon is amazing in the role.

Buster Moon – Matthew McConaughey

It was Buster Moon who brought all the talent together in the first Sing as his New Moon Theater was going to be shut down if he couldn’t raise the funds to keep it running. To make this happen he devised a singing competition that would pay the winner $1,000, though a misprint on the flyers makes the grand prize worth $100,000. This attracts a lot of talent, forcing Buster to go on with the competition, even though he doesn’t have the funds to pay off the winner.

The first film saw the rise, fall, and rise again of the New Moon Theater. The second film follows Buster and the cast of his thriving theater as they head off to the entertainment capital of the world, Redshore City, a place where they were told they didn’t have the talent to make it. Buster aims to prove those in charge wrong, making enemies, and eventually more friends, along the way.

Johnny – Taron Egerton

Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Rocketman) is back as Johnny, the singing teenage gorilla who wanted to be a singer and a pianist. His father, a crime lord, wants his son to follow in his criminal footsteps. Johnny wins round one, but what happens when his father returns on a work release program?

Taron Egerton handled the role masterfully and we know he has chops, having played Elton John in the biopic about the iconic singer.

Ash – Scarlett Johansson

When we last saw Ash, she was a punk rocker taking part in an alternative-rock duo with her boyfriend, Lance. As part of the Sing 2 cast, this time Ash is out to find the legendary rock star Clay Calloway to help convince him to come out of his 15-year exile to star in their show. Ash has her work cut out for her.

Scarlett Johansson has shown herself to be one of the most talented actresses around, handling all different genres throughout her career.

Meena – Tori Kelly

Somehow, in some way, Meena needs to overcome her massive stage fright. That was the goal of the teenage elephant in the first film. As part of the Sing 2 cast, Kelly’s Meena has moved on from her stage fright, this time having to deal with something even bigger. A romantic scene on stage.

Having never been in love, Meena finds it difficult to express those emotions. How can she show love when she’s never fallen in love? Maybe ice cream vendor elephant Alfonso will show her the way.

Gunter – Nick Kroll

Who doesn’t love Gunter, the uber-passionate dancing pig? Nick Kroll returns to the Sing 2 cast as Gunter and gives him the same amount of spunk seen in the first film. This time, it is Gunter’s suggestion of a space-themed science fiction musical that gets the ball rolling. Nick Kroll is one of the funniest guys around and brings it in this performance as well.

Miss Crawly – Garth Jennings

Miss Crawly doesn’t have a big part in Sing 2, but Garth Jennings is back in the Sing 2 cast. Miss Crawly, an elderly iguana with a freaky glass eye, returns as the administrative assistant to Buster. She is always good for a laugh or two.

Norman – Nick Offerman

In Sing, Norman was Rosita’s workaholic husband. In the sequel, Nick Offerman returns to the Sing 2 cast to voice Norman, who once again is Rosita’s workaholic husband. Apparently, the first film taught him nothing.

Nick Offerman doesn’t get to sing in this one, but his presence is still felt.

Big Daddy – Peter Serafinowicz

Big Daddy is Johnny’s criminal father who wants nothing more than for his son to follow in his criminal footsteps. Unfortunately, Big Daddy got popped in the first film, so hopefully, he doesn’t want Johnny to end up like him. As part of the Sing 2 cast, Peter Serafinowicz is back as Big Daddy, but this time he is out of jail on a work release program.

NEW SING 2 CcAST INCLUDES BONO, HALSEY, AND LETITIA WRIGHT

The new Sing 2 vocal cast is filled with some impressive talent with one addition that may come as a surprise to some. They do add some great depth to the story as well as some great fun. Check them out.

Clay Calloway – Bono

This one could be the surprise of them all. The U2 lead singer is part of the Sing 2 cast as Clay Calloway, a white-maned lion who was once a rock star legend. All that went away when his wife died, sending him into a 15-year exile. Will Clay finally emerge from the shadows to let everyone know once a rock star, always a rock star?

Porsha Crystal – Halsey

Her real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, though her fans know her as Halsey. She joins the Sing 2 cast as Porsha Crystal, the spoiled daughter of Jimmy Crystal. She just so happens to have an amazing singing voice too.

Alfonso – Pharrell Williams

Alfonso is the ray of light that Meena needs to see. He is an elephant and an ice cream vendor and when Meena begins to question her lack of love, Alfonso is there to show her what love is. Will he help her find the emotion she needs to deliver on stage?

Nooshy – Letitia Wright

Johnny is having a hard time with the dancing number he is supposed to perform on stage. Unsure what to do because he can’t get the steps down, Johnny meets up with Nooshy, a lynx street dancer, who is there to help Johnny with the one thing he is lacking – confidence.

Jimmy Crystal – Bobby Cannavale

Every story needs a good antagonist and Jimmy Crystal is just that. Voiced by a game Bobby Cannavale, who makes for a good bad guy even when not animated, Jimmy is a wolf who runs Crystal Entertainment. Jimmy also has his hands (paws) in much more than just Crystal Entertainment and does not like Buster. Will good prevail or will Jimmy get what he wants?

Suki – Chelsea Peretti

All good bad guys need help and Chelsea Peretti is on board as part of the new Sing 2 cast as Suki, the arrogant dog assistant to Jimmy Crystal. She is also the talent scout who lets Buster and his cast know that they could never make it in Redshore City.

Darius – Eric André

Darius is a yak who immediately puts Meena on her heels. He is at once egocentric as he is cast opposite Meena for their romantic scene. No wonder Meena can’t get into her part.

THE SEQUEL EARNED $634 MILLION AT THE BOX OFFICE

The makers of the first Sing are back in action for Sing 2. In fact, Garth Jennings, who wrote and directed the first film, is on board in the same roles and lends his vocal talents again as Miss Crawly. Also returning in their same roles as producers are Chris Meledandri and Janet Healey.

After the first film raked in over $634 million at the box office, it was pretty much a given that audiences would see a sequel. With the impressive Sing 2 cast back in action, along with its newcomers, the sequel didn’t fare as well at the box office as the first, but it did well enough ($407 million) to push the earnings of both films combined to reach well past the $1 billion mark. Not bad for animated films that don’t have the name Disney attached to them.

Does this mean we may see a Sing 3 in the near future? There is always a good possibility. Give Sing 2 a shot and tell us if a third one is needed.
