Coming off a fantastic run in Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, drama and comedy queen Kate Hudson is back in a classic comedic mix-up in a trailer for her upcoming feature A Little White Lie. The trailer, which you can see below, follows the story of a simple matter of miscommunication and mistaken identity when a famous author known as Shriver, who has taken on a reclusive lifestyle over the last several years, is invited to a literary gathering at a college. Without anyone really knowing what the writer looks like, no one has a clue that the man who has shown up isn’t the Shriver they were expecting and instead a handyman, and when the real Shriver appears, hijinks ensue.

The trailer reveals Kate Hudson as Simone Cleary, the woman organizing the literary event and the woman responsible for dragging Shriver out of hiding and back into the real world. While she’s proud of herself for tracking the famous author down, she almost instantly realizes that something is amiss with the way he talks and carries himself. Hoping to make it through the event in one piece, Simone pushes her Shriver to stay the course and to just “behave” for a few days.

A star-studded lineup joins Kate Hudson in this mistaken identity comedy caper with imposter Shriver played by Michael Shannon (Shotgun Stories), real Shriver played by Zach Braff (Garden State), and Don Johnson (Miami Vice) playing Simone’s co-worker T. Wasserman. The main cast is joined by a killer ensemble that includes the likes of Kate Linder (The Young and the Restless), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder), Jimmi Simpson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Adhir Kalyan (Rules of Engagement), Mark Boone Junior (Sons of Anarchy), M. Emmet Walsh (Blade Runner), Wendie Malick (Just Shoot Me!), Peyton List (Jessie), and Benjamin King (Scrubs).

While the rumor mill may have been working overtime lately trying to pin down Kate Hudson’s potential future involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as of right now the actress is keeping her hands clean from superhero productions. Things have been rather quiet for her over the last few years with A Little White Lie being her only project due out in 2023. And while we certainly aren’t here to fuel the Marvel rumors, knowing how close Hudson is with her Glass Onion co-star and Marvel baddie Kathryn Hahn, how cool would it be for the Almost Famous actress to appear in the upcoming series Agatha: Coven of Chaos?

For now, our hopes are only further pushing the rumor mill along, but we can dream just like everyone else. Even without a set-in-stone appearance in an MCU production, we’re just thankful that Kate Hudson has been making her way back into the limelight over the last few years in projects like the aforementioned Glass Onion, Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, and Music. Check out the trailer for A Little White Lie at the top and catch it in theaters on March 3, 2023.
