Samuel L. Jackson doesn’t know why Nick Fury hasn’t been to Wakanda yet. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight during the Secret Invasion red carpet, the actor said Fury would be in every Marvel movie, including both installments of Black Panther if it were up to him. “I don’t know, it’s kind of up and down for me in an interesting sort of way,” Jackson said.

“If I had it my way, I would’ve been in every Marvel movie ’cause I mean, he is Nick Fury; he knows everything that’s going on. I’m still trying to figure out why I’ve never been to Wakanda,” Samuel L. Jackson said of Nick Fury, who made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2008’s Iron Man. “They didn’t ask me to go, but I’m still trying to get there. I need a ticket,” he added.

It remains to be seen if Marvel will announce a third Black Panther movie. However, Samuel L. Jackson will star in the Disney+ series Secret Invasion, which premieres on June 21. Set in the present day, the story follows Fury, who becomes aware of a covert invasion of Earth orchestrated by a group of Skrulls capable of shape-shifting.

To combat this threat, Fury teams up with his allies, Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), and the Skrull named Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who has successfully integrated into human society, to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion. The supporting cast includes Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, and Samuel Adewunmi.

Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle are also featured in the series. Secret Invasion gives fans an introspective look at Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, shedding light on his personal journey. He is seen grappling with the loss of Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff while trying to find his place in the world.

Samuel L. Jackson previously stated that Secret Invasion would allow viewers to witness the emotional, mental, and physical strain that Fury experienced while trying to save the universe.

Jackson also noted the significance of unraveling the character’s past and delving into the profound impact his demanding role has had on his personal life.

“It’s great to have an opportunity to find out who he was and delve into how much of a toll his job takes on his personal life,” he said. Secret Invasion will also explore why Fury’s reluctant to seek assistance from The Avengers, even when confronted with formidable challenges. Samuel L. Jackson has hinted at a “legitimate reason” for not relying on his super-powered allies.

In a notable milestone, Samuel L. Jackson takes on the role of executive producer for Secret Invasion, marking his first time holding such a position in an MCU project. The series consists of six episodes, each with a run time of approximately 40 to 50 minutes, and is set to launch Phase Five of the Marvel universe.

Marvel has referred to Secret Invasion as an “event” rather than a conventional show, representing a significant departure from the usual format within the MCU. Interestingly, Samuel L. Jackson mentioned the connection between the series and The Marvels. Speaking to Empire, the actor said the Disney+ show sets the stage for the Brie Larson-led film, which hits theaters on November 10.

“This series has to happen so that The Marvels can happen. All these things are connected in an interesting sort of way,” he told the publication. At the end of Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers promised to secure a new homeland for the Skrulls. However, as Secret Invasion unfolds 30 years later, that promise remains unfulfilled, resulting in a faction of radicalized Skrulls infiltrating Earth.
