Rebel Moon Star Defends Zack Snyder Netflix Sci-Fi Epic From Critics

When Zack Snyder set out to make his own version of a Star Wars film (something he had been hoping to do for a good chunk of his career), he knew that he was ready to paint a space epic with his vision – one of darkness, despair, and plenty of violence. Enter Rebel Moon, a two-part film series that took the world by storm (for both the better and the worse), with its first half premiering back in December. Despite some negative responses from both fans and critics, one of the film’s stars, Sofia Boutella, says that she’ll stand by her trusted director until the very end.

Sofia Boutella Will Defend Rebel Moon Forever

Understanding Snyder’s background with both fans and haters, Boutella said that she thought she was prepared for the wide array of feedback that Rebel Moon was queuing up to receive. Although she said she went into the release thinking that she “was fully armed to take on those punches,” she admits that when things hit the fan, the crushing blows “really affected me.” Still, the actress says she will always cherish the time she spent working on the film alongside Snyder and her myriad of co-stars, referring to the project as “a very important part of my life,” and one that she plans to “defend forever.”

Part 2 Is Still On Schedule

The good news – at least for Snyder fans – is that Netflix didn’t wait to see how the first film would turn out before green-lighting the two-part project. This means the second installment, Rebel Moon: Part 2 – The Scargiver, is still on schedule for its April 19 release date. Even though the studio might be kicking itself for the bold decision to fire with all cylinders, Snyder’s sprawling fandom will likely still make it worthwhile at last for viewership numbers, even if the second half is another miss for critics.

Seven Samurai In Space

In Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder transports audiences to unimaginable new worlds where the weaker planets are threatened with extinction by the armies of Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee). But the dictator and his troops discover they’ve met their match after a young woman (Boutella) and a group of mercenary warriors join forces to arm the villages and help them fight for their freedom.

A Talented Cast

Leading the cast alongside Boutella are recognizable names like Ed Skrein (Alita: Battle Angel), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), Michiel Huisman (The Haunting of Hill House), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs), Ray Fisher (Justice League), and Doona Bae (The Silent Sea). No stranger to stacked call sheets, the notable names filling up Snyder’s Rebel Moon are on par with the director’s work from yesteryear, including Army of the Dead and Justice League

The Resurgence Of Zack Snyder

For those who would file themselves under the category of fans of Zack Snyder’s specific eye for filmmaking, the Rebel Moon series comes as a welcome project after the director’s falling out with DC and the long-fought-for-release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. In the years since his traumatic breakup with the comic-book-turned-film studio, Snyder poured himself into his family life and has only helmed one project prior to Rebel Moon – that being Netflix’s Army of the Dead

At the end of the day, whether you love him or hate him, Zack Snyder is here to stay, and with his collaborators like Rebel Moon’s Sofia Boutella standing by his side, he’ll continue to carry on as a force to be reckoned with.
