It’s safe to say that many actors, like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, and David Boreanaz, have a little show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer to thank for launching their careers. But just like the title helped out its blossoming main cast, it certainly gave a boost to other up-and-coming stars. Now, Pedro Pascal praises Buffy for giving his career the push it needed to inspire him to carry on as an actor.

Pedro Pascal Was A Struggling Actor

As we’re well aware, breaking into Hollywood without – say – an acquaintance or family member to help you do so can be a daunting experience and one that requires a lot of determination. For Pedro Pascal, the actor says that his “entry level lasted about 15 years.” Reminiscing on that time in his life, Pedro Pascal says that he was unable to see a doctor and couldn’t possibly afford to get sick, let alone have surgery, as he was struggling to make his rent payment by the end of every month and then he landed a role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Buffy Paid The Rent

The actor admits that he had “less than $7” in his bank account and was worried about how he would make it through the week. Then, Pedro Pascal says that he checked his bank account and a residual from his appearance in Season 4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer had been posted, and he was able to make those necessary payments. He says that with this financial boost, he was “able to stay in [Hollywood] and not give up.”

A One-Off Appearance

Pedro Pascal’s short but memorable dip into Buffy the Vampire Slayer came with the Season 4 premiere episode, “The Freshman.” The installment was an entirely new frontier for the characters as they’d officially left high school behind and were embarking on their new lives as college students. Sarah Michelle Gellar’s titular heroine is having a difficult time easing into her new surroundings when she meets Pascal’s Eddie, another freshman struggling to adjust.

A Memorable Appearance

While chatting about the difficulties of college and the fresh start that they’ve been thrown into, the pair eventually go their separate ways back to their respective dorms after strolling around the campus at night. The next day, Buffy looks for Eddie in a shared class but doesn’t find him, only to discover that he was turned into a vampire shortly after their chat the night before. While Pedro Pascal didn’t have a leading role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, his short but sweet portrayal of another frightened soul entering a new chapter of his life still pulled on the heartstrings of viewers at home.

More Guest Spots

Following Pedro Pascal’s appearance on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the actor would land other one-off shots on titles such as Law & Order, The Good Wife, and Nurse Jackie before nabbing a memorable recurring role on HBO’s smash hit, Game of Thrones. From here, it was all smooth sailing for Pascal, who went on to land a main role in Narcos, with his titular turn in The Mandalorian just around the corner.

The Busiest Man In Hollywood

last of us season finale

Now one of the busiest men in the biz, Pedro Pascal still looks back at his time on Buffy as being the foundational building block that jump-started the rest of his career. The actor is currently working on Season 2 of The Last of Us and was recently confirmed to be Mr Fantastic, Reed Richards, in Marvel’s Fantastic Four film as well as Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2.
