A New Karate Kid Movie Is On The Way
A new Karate Kid movie has been announced for a June 7, 2024 release date.
A new Karate Kid is being developed, and already has a release date of June 7, 2024. This is interesting considering the success of Cobra Kai, and it brings up the question if the new movie is going to be tied to the series. Everyone has fallen back in love with the Karate Kid franchise based on the outpouring of love from Cobra Kai, which has just dropped its fifth season on Netflix.
Cobra Kai has brought back heroes and villains from the Karate Kid franchise, and the current season sees Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence teaming up to take down their shared rival, Terry Silver. Terry was the main antagonist in The Karate Kid Part III. He also emerged as the villain in Cobra Kai Season 4 and Season 5. With so many of the characters from the franchise returning, we could be seeing Cobra Kai turn into a new movie franchise harkening back to the movies that the series is based on.
Everyone would love to see Ralph Macchio and William Zabka return to proper form in a new Karate Kid movie, but then again, we might be seeing the perfect blend of the older movies and the Cobra Kai series in a continuation movie. It is quite strange to see how beloved the Karate Kid franchise is after the movies were mostly cheesy affairs. Before we are attacked, we know everyone loves Cobra Kai, but that doesn’t take away the cheesy quality of the original movies.
Another interesting prospect is that are heavy rumors that Hilary Swank is going to be reprising her role as Julie Pierce, from The Next Karate Kid movie. Swank has yet to appear in Cobra Kai, but she was recently noncommittal about her possible involvement with the series. Though the series is the main focus of the franchise, we could be seeing all the students of Mr. Miyagi team up in this new franchise movie, though this is just wild speculation.
The first Karate Kid movie was released in 1984 and produced two sequels, a spinoff, and a reboot movie and series. Now, we are going to finally get a sequel movie that is tied to the original franchise again. Well, that detail has not yet been confirmed, but we have strong presumptions that this new movie is going to be tied to Cobra Kai and the original franchise movies.
A director or cast has not yet been revealed for this Karate Kid movie, though the release date gives plenty of time for that to all be revealed. We would assume since Sony is in charge of Cobra Kai, we are going to be seeing some franchise favorites added to this new movie.
The untitled Karate Kid movie will be debuting on June 7, 2024. There is no connection between the new movie and Cobra Kai yet, but we would assume this new season might be hinting towards the new movie in some small way. Either way, we are excited to see the franchise being revived once again.
