They’ve been rivals for decades and now they’re teaming up to take on someone too big for either one of them to take on alone. Netflix has released the full trailer for Cobra Kai season 5, showing Ralph Macchio’s Danny LaRusso and William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence joining forces to take down Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith); the villain of 1989’s The Karate Kid Part III. And for an added bonus Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) is helping the pair out as well.

The Cobra Kai season 5 trailer opens with both Danny and Johnny in desperate straits. Danny is forced to close Miyagi-Do Karate, while we find Johnny driving an Uber and getting bad ratings for keeping his car fresh with the aroma of beer and failure. At the same time Terry Silver is recruiting more badasses to head his expanded Cobra Kai operation while the kids Danny and Johnny were mentoring are caught in the crossfire. Of course, another old “friend” shows up at the end of the trailer in his brand new set of accommodations. You can see the trailer yourself below.

We caught you looking but no — you will sadly not spot Hillary Swank in the trailer for Cobra Kai season 5. As the star of 1994’s The Next Karate Kid, Swank’s long been rumored to be on her way to an appearance in Cobra Kai. As the final film in what’s since become known as the “Miyagi-verse,” The Next Karate Kid remains the one largely untapped film in the series as far as Cobra Kai is concerned. With a long list of enemies lined up against the heroes this season, this certainly does seem like it might be a good time for Swank’s Julie Pierce to ride in for the rescue. If she is set to appear, however, so far mum is definitely the word.

If Hillary Swank and/or other actors from The Next Karate Kid don’t show up in Cobra Kai season 5, that doesn’t mean their chances of making appearances are done for good. The creators have made it clear that — as long as Cobra Kai continues to have a streaming home — they have plans lasting well past the upcoming season. Maybe along with Hillary Swank there might be chances for actors like Michael Ironside, Walton Goggins, and Michael Cavalieri to re-appear in the Miyagi-verse.

Cobra Kai season 5 streams on Netflix on Friday, September 9, promising to bring us some epic martial arts showdowns; including between Karate Kid alum whose characters are encountering each other for the very first time. The season 4 finale was the first time an episode of Cobra Kai featured every single surviving actor to play a major villain in the Macchio-led Karate Kid flicks, and now all four characters — Johnny Lawrence, Chozen, Terry Silver, and John Kreese — are set to appear prominently in the new season. The only absentee is Sato; Chozen’s uncle whose vengeful path sets Chozen against Danny in 1986’s The Karate Kid Part II. The actor who played Sato, Danny Kamekona, passed away in 1996.
