The brand-new Netflix show The Night Agent was only released to the streaming service a little over one week ago, and it’s already been announced that there’s going to be a Season 2. Audiences can expect Peter Sutherland to return for another thrilling mission, according to ComicBook. Here’s what we have seen so far from the record-setting series and what we can expect in the next season.

In Season 1 of The Night Agent, audiences were introduced to the main character, FBI Agent Peter Sutherland, played by the young and handsome Gabriel Basso. In the beginning, Sutherland spends his time in an isolated room inside The White House, answering an emergency phone line that rarely rings. Things get heated real fast when an unexpected phone call leads Sutherland on a mission to find a mole within the United States government and stop an impending assassination.

At the season’s close, Sutherland completes his mission and joins the Night Action team to head overseas for a new mission. Not much is shared about this mission, leaving fans in suspense for the upcoming season.

Shawn Ryan, the creator of the TV series, has shared that The Night Agent Season 2 will pick up with an exciting new mission for Peter Sutherland. Similar to the plots of the Mission Impossible film franchise, audiences can expect a new mission, exciting thrills, and a new cast of characters. This means we most likely won’t see much of the cast from the first season, like Rose Larkin, played by Luciane Buchanan, and Chelsea Arrington, played by Fola Evans-Akingbola.

Like most major films and TV shows, The Night Agent is based on a book. The novel, written by author Matthew Quirk and released in 2019, is reminiscent of authors David Baldacci and John Grisham, who often write legal thrillers. The New York Times bestselling author has written many page-turners, including Red Warning, Hour of the Assassin, and The 500, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see more of his other novels get adapted onto the big screen.

The Night Agent Season 2 will be joining the ever-growing amount of Netflix action films and TV shows that we cannot get enough of. Looking ahead, we’ve got FUBAR, a new action movie starring the great Arnold Schwarzenegger, coming to the streaming service on May 25.  In early 2024, Cameron Diaz will be making her return to acting for the new action film, Back in Action which will also star Jamie Foxx.

Since the confirmed news of The Night Agent Season 2 is so recent, there isn’t a release date or cast and crew information yet. But we are confident that Gabriel Basso will return as the main character, Peter Sutherland.

This role is a big break for Gabriel Basso, who began acting at a young age. The new action star has previously been in films like Super 8, American Wrestler: The Wizard, and The Hive, but his role in a promising franchise like The Night Agent is definitely his biggest one yet.
