Netflix Demon Slayer Live-Action Series Is Perfect Step For Streaming And Anime Fans

Netflix has taken it upon itself to become the de facto source for live-action anime adaptations. We’ve come a very long way from the dark days of adaptations like 2009’s Dragonball Evolution, and we actually get good adaptations like One Piece. If Netflix is looking for its next big anime to adapt to live-action, the streamer should consider the wildly popular Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Netflix’s Demon Slayer Perfect For Live-Action

Netflix’s Demon Slayer would surely bring in a ton of viewers right off the bat, with the anime and manga already having a massive built-in fanbase.

The plot of the anime and manga follows Tanjiro Kamado, who decides to become a Demon Slayer after his family is killed and his younger sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon.

From there, the series follows Tanjiro as he battles top-ranked demons, climbs his way up the rankings in the Demon Slayer Corps, and searches for a way to turn his sister back into a human.

Best-Selling Manga And Massive Media Franchise

Netflix’s Demon Slayer could capitalize on the fact that the Demon Slayer franchise is not only one of the best-selling manga series of all time but also one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.

Hardcore to casual fans alike are watching the anime, with the movie Mugen Train also becoming the highest-grossing anime film of all time. These are the kind of numbers that attract companies like Netflix, which would be willing to throw a big budget behind a live-action adaptation if the streamer knows that people are going to tune in and watch.

Big Budget For Demon Slayer Live-Action?

That big budget would be incredibly important for the success of Netflix’s Demon Slayer because the kinetic battles, Taisho-era Japan setting, and the demons themselves would all require a lot of money to faithfully bring to life.

Ufotable has done an incredible job with the anime, giving it amazing animation that sets it apart from a lot of other anime series.

Netflix would need to take a similar approach and ensure that the effects of the live-action live up to the anime.

One Piece Adaptation A Huge Hit

If Netflix is able to bring a live-action Demon Slayer project to life, there is precedence that the streamer could do the franchise justice.

The One Piece adaptation has been widely praised by both newcomers and fans of the franchise, which is no easy feat in the world of anime. The recent YuYu Hakusho series has received similar praise, though did not reach the popularity that the One Piece adaptation did.

Avatar Also Gets Into Live-Action

With that being said, Netflix also has a history of failing with its live-action adaptations, so hopefully, it will avoid those mistakes with Demon Slayer.

The live-action Cowboy Bebop series and the Death Note movie were both critically panned, and the former was canceled almost immediately after airing. Although it’s not an anime, the recent Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation has also been getting very mixed reviews.

Demon Slayer Could Be Special

Ultimately, Netflix has the ability to do something special with a live-action Demon Slayer adaptation if it can do it right. But, as with all other anime adaptations, at least we’ll have the original anime to fall back on if it fails. Speaking of which, you can check out the newest Demon Slayer movie, To the Hashira Training, in theaters now.
