After appearing in Supernatural as one of the audience’s all-time favorite secondary characters, Castiel, Misha Collins is returning to The CW in Gotham Knights. He plays Harvey Dent, and as you can see in a photo shared by Yahoo! News, he is coming in hot as he interrogates Batman’s adopted son, Turner Hayes, about his role in a murder.

What murder are we talking about, you wonder? Well, that would be the murder of Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman himself. Gotham Knights is about what would happen in the already crime-ridden city of Gotham if Batman weren’t around to save it.

In addition to Misha Collins, the cast includes many young faces, including Oscar Morgan, playing Bruce Wayne’s adopted son Turner Hayes, Fallon Smyth as Harper Row, alleged daughter of The Joker, Tyler DiChiara as her brother, Cullen, and Navia Robinson, playing a new version of Robin.

In the season one trailer, a voice asks: “With no Batman, who’s gonna solve the murder of Bruce Wayne?” And the answer to this, it seems, would be Misha Collins’ Harvey Dent. Just like in the DC comic books, Harvey Dent is a tough but charismatic District Attorney who, as comic book fans know, is doomed to become Two-Face, one of Batman’s nemeses.

At the moment, Misha Collins’ character only has one handsome face, though, and he is using it to interrogate the young adults in Gotham about their involvement in the death of Bruce Wayne – something that may just end up bringing together the children of Gotham’s heroes and villains alike.

To be clear, the Gotham Knights series Misha Collins is starring in is not based on the Gotham Knights video game. It is also not a spin-off of the Batwoman series. And it is also not a part of the Arrowverse, which is now winding down as the CW network was recently bought out by another investor who is seeking to change the content of the channel. It is its own story, and it premieres on Tuesday, March 14.

Since the long-running and well-loved Supernatural series ended in 2020, fans have been missing Misha Collins and wondering what he has been up to. Aside from hosting Roadfood: Discovering America One Dish at a Time for PBS in 2021 (a show that showcased American cooking in various locales across the country), he has acted as a character in several podcasts, including The Angel of Vine and Bridgewater

Misha Collins also released a book of poetry in October of 2021 titled Some Things I Still Can’t Tell You, which made it onto the New York Times Bestseller list.

In 2023, though, Misha Collins is happily returning to the screen in Gotham Knights, which is written by Chad Fiveash, Natalie Abrams, and James Stoteraux. Although it may seem like an alternate history of sorts, the characters that star in it are based on characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, the great minds who created Batman for DC Comics way back in 1939.

With that kind of history and the fan base Misha Collins earned playing Castiel, the show stands a good chance of being a hit.
