Two titans of Hollywood are coming together, as Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in the next film from director Paul Thomas Anderson. This will be the first collaboration between the two. PTA is writing, directing, and producing the project, which is currently untitled.

Leonard DiCaprio and Paul Thomas Anderson working together on a commercial prestige blockbuster sounds like a match made in heaven.

Along with Leonardo DiCaprio, the new Paul Thomas Anderson film will also star Sean Penn and Regina Hall. The film is said to have a contemporary setting and will apparently be “the most commercial” installment Anderson has made. While Anderson’s films are incredibly well-directed and artistic, they often appeal to a decently sized demographic, so this tidbit of information is interesting.

Leonard DiCaprio and Paul Thomas Anderson working together on a commercial prestige blockbuster sounds like a match made in heaven. Warner Bros Discovery, which had one of the most successful auteur blockbusters of all time last year with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, is producing the project. Warner Bros. Picture Group CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy previously worked with Anderson at MGM, where Anderson made Licorice Pizza.

De Luca also worked with Anderson as the former head of production at New Line Cinema, where Anderson made Boogie Nights. The upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson film reportedly has a budget of $100 million. With that budget, the production team, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Paul Thomas Anderson, this film seems like it will inevitably be getting some Oscar nominations.

Perhaps teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio will finally nab Paul Thomas Anderson that much-deserved Oscar win.

The film is set to begin production in California on January 21. In the meantime, Leonardo DiCaprio will be staying busy on the awards circuit for his film with frequent collaborator Martin Scorcese, Killers of the Flower Moon.

Killers of the Flower Moon is based on David Grann’s nonfiction novel about the FBI’s investigation of the Osage murders in the 1920s. DiCaprio and Scorcese will be working on another film based on a Grann nonfiction novel titled The Wager, which tells the story of a shipwreck.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s most recent film project was 2021’s Licorice Pizza, which earned three Oscar nominations. That brought Anderson to a whopping total of 11 Oscar nominations without any wins. This is a feeling that Leonardo DiCaprio can undoubtedly relate to after he received five nominations before finally getting a win with The Revenant in 2016.

Perhaps teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio will finally nab Paul Thomas Anderson that much-deserved Oscar win. If not, this project is certainly something to get excited about. It’ll be interesting to see what the story for this film ends up being, and hopefully, we hear more about it soon.

Along with Leonardo DiCaprio, the new Paul Thomas Anderson film will also star Sean Penn and Regina Hall.

In the meantime, you can check out Leonardo DiCaprio in Killers of the Flower Moon on Apple TV+ this Friday. The three-plus hour epic also stars Lily Gladstone, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Jesse Plemons. Gladstone recently took home the Golden Globe for her incredible performance in the film.

If you’re interested in checking out Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest, you can stream Licorice Pizza on the MGM+ platform. Since filming for the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio and PTA film starts later this month, we should hear more about this one soon. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated.
