Kevin Spacey’s return to the world of movies after sexual assault and misconduct allegations is really starting to take off. Just a week after it was revealed that he’ll be starring in the historical drama, 1242 – Gateway to the West, the actor has another film heading to the Cannes market. According to Deadline’s exclusive report, the project is called Peter Five Eight and features the controversial actor in the leading role.

The movie will screen at the Cannes Film Festival where it will be shopped to buyers. The project is financed by Mad Honey and LTD Films and is co-produced by Ascent Films and Forever Safe. VMI International acquired worldwide sales rights to the film. Peter Five Eight tells the story of Peter (Kevin Spacey), a charismatic man who arrives up in a small mountainside community in his fancy black sedan. The movie also stars Jet Jandreau as Sam, a glamorous real estate agent who is a slightly unhinged, troubled alcoholic with a dark secret.

Rebecca De Mornay plays Brenda, who Peter tries to manipulate for information at the request of his powerful, shadowy boss Mr. Lock. Speaking about Peter Five Eight, director Michael Zaiko Hall told The Hollywood Reporter Kevin Spacey was a joy to work with and had everyone laughing between takes. He said the controversial actor delivered a surprising treat for his fans. Additionally, he said the stealth movie was shot in September 2021 in Siskiyou County, California, near the Oregon border.

These new projects are not the first for Kevin Spacey. Last year, the Superman Returns alum said he would be returning to acting with a role in the Italian film The Man Who Drew God. Directed by Franco Nero, the film featured the actor as a police officer with Faye Dunaway co-starring. As for concerns that his involvement would be harmful to its success, Nero said the controversy only generated more interest in the film from buyers. The film will also be on sale on the Croisette via OneTwoThree Media, Movie Web reports.

Before his career came to a screeching halt in 2017, Kevin Spacey was heralded as one of the greats in the industry. But it all came crashing down when he was accused of making sexual advances on a 14-year-old actor who starred alongside him in 1986. Following the revelation, more allegations came to the surface, leading to Netflix breaking ties with the actor on a movie called Gore. The streamer also removed him from the final season of the series House of Cards.

However, Kevin Spacey has maintained his innocence in the face of the controversy, saying he has never forced himself on anyone. But that hasn’t stopped the flood of lawsuits and criminal investigations filed against him because of these allegations. Interestingly, they were all ultimately dropped, and the 62-year-old has never been found guilty in a court of law for the alleged crimes.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival will see several actors and directors marred by controversy trying to make a quiet comeback. Alongside Kevin Spacey’s projects, there are new films starring or directed by Roman Polanski, Luc Besson, Johnny Depp, Alec Baldwin, and James Franco.
