British actor Joseph Quinn is having quite a moment these days. After co-starring in the fourth season of the highly regarded and fan favorite Stranger Things, Quinn’s star has been meteorically rising ever since. The performer who was once considered in minor roles with miniseries projects like Catherine the Great and Howards End has suddenly become the actor of the year due in large part because of his portrayal as Eddie Munson in the Duffer brothers’ epic series. For what many believe is Quinn’s breakout role, the end of Eddie Munson may just be the beginning for Joseph Quinn. Now, it appears that fans are flocking to social media to show their appreciation for Quinn’s work and to customize images of the actor as a comic book superhero they would love to see him portray.
According to CBR, a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has proposed that Joseph Quinn play Mister Fantastic and fashioned a piece of fan art to make their case. The elongated image displayed on the user’s Instagram account was shared with close to 200,000 of spdrmnkyxxiii’s followers, which saw over 6,000 likes for a picture that might be worth a thousand words. It is not evident at this time if Quinn has seen the fan art in question yet. Still, it might make for some serious discussion among MCU fans about who should carry the honor of playing Mister Fantastic in future iterations of the superhero story. You can see the image below.
Before Joseph Quinn entered international acclaim as Eddie Munson on Stranger Things, the character of Mister Fantastic has been portrayed by a few actors looking to capitalize on the charm of the role. Mister Fantastic is famously part of the Fantastic Four, with an alter ego of Reed Richards both in the comics and onscreen. On film, the part was played by Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd, who at the time was most famous for smaller roles in Titanic and Black Hawk Down. Gruffudd played Mister Fantastic in 2005’s Fantastic Four and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, alongside Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. The 2015 reboot of Fantastic Four saw Miles Teller in the same role opposite Michael B. Jordan and Kate Mara. Recently, Mister Fantastic was embodied by John Krasinski in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a role that Forbes reports may not see The Office actor repeat.
As for Joseph Quinn, his days as Mister Fantastic may never be realized unless this most recent fan depiction of him in character sways Marvel executives. According to Entertainment Weekly, a reboot of Fantastic Four is currently in the works, with a proposed release date of November 2024. There is no word yet on who has been cast in the movie, but the plan is set for the superhero juggernaut to debut as part of the MCU’s Phase 6 rollout, alongside Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. After all, fans of Quinn’s may still have time to watch their favorite Stranger Things cast member in the role.
