Marvel all but announced that the Fantastic Four were going to be joining this phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when we saw Fantastic 4 fly into view in their most recent teaser trailer look at the next batch of movies. And the dust hadn’t settled even a little bit before the question was asked about who would make up this iconic foursome. Well, according to Geekosity, a familiar name is back in the mix with Marvel offering John Krasinski a crack at the Reed Richards role. You know they are going for a big name with this casting and Krasinski would definitely fit the bill in the part.

John Krasinski had been lightly rumored before for this part with the name being thrown around along with wife Emily Blunt who would be up for Susan Storm. It doesn’t look like we are going to be getting the off-screen couple into the on-screen superhero game, but it was right for fans to wish and dream of that outcome. We already know they have real chemistry (duh) but have been able to translate it onto the screen as well when they did A Quiet Place together.

Again, John Krasinski rumors don’t make a casting decision, but we also know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is big business now. It’s attracting some of the biggest names in the industry to the new stories and movies. We are about to see an onslaught of new productions that will feature some A-listers across the board. Some that aren’t even top billing in their respective movie (I’m looking at you Eternals) so it isn’t exactly news to have big names attached to rumors. At this point, we are also looking for the right fit, and Krasinski could definitely pull off the geeky but charming Mr. Fantastic/ Reed Richards, a different kind of hero entering the space.

When Marvel sent out the Phase Four sizzle reel on Monday it caused more than a little stir with some first looks at movies like the aforementioned Eternals, a title for the next Black Panther movie and of course the iconic imagery of the Fantastic Four logo shooting into the screen. Unlike the other movies, it wasn’t given a firm release date, just something to get fans excited, acting as close to an official announcement as you’ll get in this stage of development. And that’s why the casting rumors, John Krasinski included, are about to kick into high gear.

The expectations will be high for Fantastic 4 for a couple of reasons. The first is that it will be the group’s first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after coming over in the deal with Disney acquired 21st Century Fox a couple of years ago. That’s what landed this group and the X-Men in the MCU. But it’s also because the previous iterations of the foursome on-screen have fallen more than a little flat. Both the 2004 and 2015 movie versions were massive duds, meaning this next group really needs to hit it out of the galactic park. Getting John Krasinski, and possibly even pairing him with Emily Blunt would add legit credence to the idea that a movie about the group can still work.

It’s also worth noting that John Krasinski has surprisingly little in the pre-development pipeline right now when it comes to acting gigs. He could be holding out for the next big thing. And what would be bigger than joining Marvel?
