They say that all it takes is one person to make a difference and in the case of the DCEU, an insider says that’s what they’re hoping to do. For the superhero-based universe, this means holding tightly to one of their fan-favorite actors and giving multiple others the boot. The actor in question? It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Henry Cavill. According to reports from The Wrap, Warner Bros. is considering scrapping a slew of other actors, but keeping Cavill on as Superman.

It’s no secret that in recent years, the DCEU has paled in comparison to the MCU. Numbers have been down and fans have been agitated by poorly made decisions on behalf of the leadership at DC Films. Now, with Warner Bros. Discovery head David Zaslav eying up new potential leaders to stand at the helm of the future of the DCEU, there’s never been a better time to reassemble the Justice League – literally. The insider says that the company is considering moving forward with another solo Superman film, something that would need to head into production STAT as to get Henry Cavill’s face back on the screen.

Things are a bit twisty for DC right now with the current DC Films President Walter Hamada reporting to Michael De Luca and Pam Abdyin while the search for a new person is underway who would ultimately fill Hamada’s shoes. De Luca and Abdy have taken over the role of Toby Emmerich, someone who worked alongside Hamada on the upcoming The Flash feature. Unlike Henry Cavill, The Flash’s controversial star, Ezra Miller, has had their ups and downs both with fans and the law, leading DC followers to wonder if the film will be tossed aside should Hamada be replaced in time.

As for Henry Cavill, he’s been playing Superman since 2013’s Man of Steel. As other actors answered the calls and put on the suits of their casted superheroes, Cavill’s Superman stood at the helm of it all. In 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League, Cavill led the franchise to bring people into the theaters. Over the last five years, however, it’s been radio silence from our newest Superman.

No one has said whether Henry Cavill would be making a comeback including Cavill himself who has since been busy with projects including The Witcher and Enola Holmes. There was a chance to use Cavill for brief cameo appearances in both 2019’s Shazam! and the HBO Max hit, Peacemaker, but oddly, Cavill was nowhere to be found. Instead, both productions used a body double to fill in for the man of steel.

So now, fans are all stuck wondering, ‘where is Henry Cavill and will he ever return to the DC universe?’ According to the insider, we can have hope that at the very least he’ll appear in the near future in an ensemble movie, but even more likely, the company will be cranking out a solo Superman film at their earliest convenience. While we’re lucky to at least have the likes of Tyler Hoechlin donning the Superman cape on The CW’s Superman & Lois, we still want Cavill leading the charge on the big screen. And for that, we’ll need to wait. The only other silver lining is that Ta-Nehisi Coates is currently penning a Superman-based flick that has J.J. Abrams’ name attached to produce. If the rumors are true, the piece would center on a Black Superman, something that could definitely breathe new life into a dying franchise.
