See Harrison Ford Selling Beer In The Wackiest Commercials Ever

Harrison Ford appeared in Japanese beer commercials in the 80s.

Harrison Ford is undoubtedly cool enough to sell just about anything, which is exactly why the Japanese beer company Kirin hired him for some wacky commercials back in the day. It’s not often that you get to see Han Solo and Indiana Jones-era Ford in a commercial, but that’s exactly what you get with this completion from the YouTube channel This Guy’s Thoughts. Check out Ford enjoying some Kirin in the four commercials below.

Each Harrison Ford Kirin beer commercial has its highlights, but the best one has to be the sauna commercial. In it, Ford and a fellow sauna enjoyer start pantomiming, pouring, and enjoying a Kirin lager beer while enjoying the steam. However, the pantomiming makes them so thirsty for the real thing that they dip out of the sauna early so they can get to drinking.

Apparently, Harrison Ford’s Kirin beer commercials came out in Japan sometime in the 90s, so Ford would have already been a massive star from Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Kirin would have undoubtedly had to pay a pretty penny to get Ford on board for this many commercials unless Ford was just a major fan of the brand. Kirin is still selling beer today (and has been since 1885, apparently), so the company is doing something right.

Since Harrison Ford will be starring in an Indiana Jones movie (and was in a Star Wars movie not too terribly long ago), maybe it’s time for him and Kirin to team up again for some 2023 beer commercials. Alas, it will probably never happen, but it’s definitely something worth hoping for. If they can recapture the magic of these 90s commercials, it would certainly be a treat for both Ford and Kirin fans everywhere.

While Harrison Ford is probably done hawking beer at this point in his life, we can look forward to seeing him reprise one of his most famous roles one last time in the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The film is set to finally bring Indy’s saga to a close (although the franchise is set to go on) as he races to retrieve a legendary artifact that could change the course of the world. The film is directed by James Mangold and also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelson, Boyd Holbrook, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones, and Thomas Kretschmann.

Maybe we’ll get to see Harrison Ford crack a cold beer on screen when he makes his debut in the MCU as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in 2024. Ford is stepping in to take over the role from the late William Hurt in the upcoming Marvel films Thunderbolts and Captain America: New World Order. Captain America: New World Order is set to hit screens on May 3, 2024, while Thunderbolts is set to come out on July 26, 2024.

We’ll get to see Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny first, though, as that is set to come out on June 30. In the meantime, you can revisit these Harrison Ford beer commercials to stay occupied until that film comes out. We’ll also keep you updated on any other projects Ford has planned.
