When it comes to putting together a Hollywood career, these days one of the biggest compliments, or industry accolades can be joining a huge studio tentpole franchise. These are the big moneymakers of course, and sometimes actors can take part in more than one. Heck, if you are Kurt Russell, you might just be in all of them in some form before it’s all said and done. He’s already got a few under his belt and it looks like there is another on the way. The latest Giant Freakin Robot exclusive from our trusted and proven source has it that Kurt Russell is now set to join the Godzilla series on AppleTv+. He’ll be adding the Monsterverse to his list of franchises. It’s a huge addition to the show which is still coming together in terms of details.

It looks like this series will be titled Monarch, named after the secret government organization that has been at the heart of many of these movies so far. It isn’t totally clear which role Kurt Russell will have in this series, though he will definitely be playing one of the leads. One avenue could see him as one of the key figures within the Monarch organization. It’s a huge get and considering Russell’s general demeanor on the big or small screen, one could picture a scenario in which the character blurs the lines between good and evil, especially if he is a major player in the group working to keep these monsters secret from the rest of the world. But there are other ways his character could go as well.

We don’t currently have another other casting details around this Godzilla series other than Kurt Russell joining on, but there are some general beats about the show already out there. Apparently, it will center on a family that is working to uncover some past secrets that eventually led them to unearth aspects of the Monarch organization and its secret dealings. In this way, Kurt Russell could be part of this family, though that is just conjecture.

sky high

On the acting side of things, Kurt Russell does have some other big franchises under his belt already. He appeared in F9, the latest installment of the aforementioned Fast & Furious franchise. Russell played Mr. Nobody, the leader of a covert ops team. And of course, the dude had his place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well, playing Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol II. Heck, he’s got the holiday season on lockdown as well, having played Santa Clause in two The Christmas Chronicles movies. So, yeah, on the tent pole franchise side of things, Kurt Russell might end up checking all of the boxes.

And in terms of the Monsterverse, there have already been four movies in this world starting with Godzilla (where Monarch was first introduced), followed by Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and last year’s Godzilla vs. Kong. While not on the level of Fast & Furious or Marvel for Kurt Russell, he’s still joining a franchise that’s earned close to $2 billion dollars worldwide at the box office. Monarch will also be joined by Skull Island, another series in this universe that will air on Netflix.
