Obi-Wan Kenobi Ewan McGregor Star Wars

Ewan McGregor is set to reprise one of his most famous roles sooner than later, news that when first announced had the Star Wars fanbase more than a little abuzz. He’s coming back as Obi-Wan Kenobi for an upcoming show that will further the story of one of the most beloved characters we’ve ever had in the franchise. It looks like McGregor won’t just be confined to his one feature program though. The latest rumor has it the actor will be appearing in other franchise productions as well. His first stop will be on Andor, another new series in the new Star Wars universe of shows.

Working Ewan McGregor into other Star Wars television series makes a ton of sense considering the popularity of the character, the connection to almost all parts of the universe, and how the shows will ultimately overlap. Andor looks like it will appear first on-screen for Disney+ putting Kenobi in place to have a major role. The rumor has it that it won’t just be a cameo but he’ll be a recurring character in the story. With the rise of the rebellion and Obi-Wan’s status as one of the few remaining Jedis, he could even be central to that show’s story.

Andor is set to follow the titular character and rebel spy Cassian Andor. It will go down a few years before the events of Rogue One which, of course, happens right before A New Hope. In the build-up to the events that go down in the original Star Wars, these shows will be important world and plot setting devices for the larger movie scope. This lines up perfectly with Ewan McGregor’s Ob-Wan timeline and will have significant overlap in his story after what went down at the end of Revenge of the Sith.

This new batch of Star Wars shows, which take place in this specific timeline, is such a welcome and exciting time for the franchise. This time period in the universe has gone relatively unexplored in a live-action setting. But that’s set to change with the influx of new characters along with the rebooting of some other established folks. Ewan McGregor was the biggest addition on this front, but they’re also set to bring back Hayden Christensen in his Darth Vader role as well. Others could be on the way.

With an appearance on Andor already planned and the aforementioned Obi-Wan Kenobi series in the works, Ewan McGregor is set to be firmly entrenched in the Star Wars franchise. We know that he ultimately ends up on Tatooine as Old Man Ben safeguarding Luke in his formative years. But what happens before that? What is the ultimate fallout of the Emperor’s rise in leading up to the building of the Death Star? It stands to reason we cover all of this with these new shows and Obi-Wan will be central to a lot of it.

I’m sure more is to come around the news for both Andro and Obi-Wan Kenobi with production ramping up on both. Ewan McGregor and his involvement are just part of the puzzle. Surely there is more world-building to come.
