After years of anticipation and speculation, Obi-Wan Kenobi starring Ewan McGregor is set to start filming soon. It has been sixteen years since McGregor has played Obi-Wan, but despite the actor soon turning 50, he’s never looked better as he’s preparing to get back into the role.

Two recent Instagram posts from personal trainer Tony Horton show Ewan McGregor getting ripped to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi. In one photo, McGregor is showing off his muscles, which says this is after 16 days of the actor working out and sticking to a diet. A photo from yesterday also shows McGregor with three other guys, which also shows that McGregor seems to be growing his hair out for the role.

Ewan McGregor has been rumored to be returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi since 2017, when there were talks of an Obi-Wan Kenobi film in the works. After the disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story, it seems like many of those rumored film projects turned into Disney+ series. The Boba Fett movie apparently turned into the beginnings of The Mandalorian, while the Kenobi film turned into the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

But it wasn’t until 2019 when Disney announced that they actually had plans to return to the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi with Ewan McGregor playing the role. The series didn’t receive many updates until late last year at Disney Investor Day 2020. At the event, Lucasfilm said the film would be set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, that the title was officially Obi-Wan Kenobi, and maybe most surprising of all, Hayden Christensen would be returning as Darth Vader.

While there have been rumors about what this future Obi-Wan Kenobi project will be, most have been little more than rumors. When it was envisioned as a film, it was theorized that the film might follow Obi-Wan Kenobi coming out of hiding to protect Luke Skywalker. But as of right now, it seems that the only consistent over the years is that Ewan McGregor will be returning to the role.

However, we do know that in addition to seeing the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, Obi-Wan Kenobi will have all six episodes directed by Deborah Chow. Previously, Chow has directed two episodes of The Mandalorian’s first season, and has directed episodes of American Gods, The Man in the High Castle, Better Call Saul, and Mr. Robot. McGregor also said that the show will start filming in the late spring in Los Angeles, and using The Mandalorian’s stagecraft technology.

While Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently in pre-production, it looks as though both The Book of Boba Fett and the Andor series are currently filming. It’s unclear when we will see Ewan McGregor’s swole return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but if filming goes as plans, it looks like we could see it in 2022.
