You need something light, so we are here to offer you 5 Dumb Movies to Watch When You Don’t Want Anything Heavy.

There are many movies that could fall into this category, so we started with five. If you play your cards right, this could become an ongoing series of movie dumbness that is sure to bring a smile when “heavy” is something you aren’t looking for.

So, here are 5 movies to watch when you don’t want anything heavy, in no particular order of, well, dumb. Shut off your brain and enjoy.

Dumb and Dumber (1994)

A classic comedy that follows the ridiculous adventures of two dimwitted friends played by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.

Dumb and Dumber was an instant classic. It came at a time when Jim Carrey’s star was not only on the bullet train to stardom, but it was also a time when he could do no wrong. He was finishing his time on the hit sketch comedy series, In Living Color, and had just come out with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask, two massive hits for Carrey. The wild card in the whole Dumb and Dumber scenario was Jeff Daniels. When it came to comedy, Jim Carrey was a known commodity, unlike Daniels.

The story follows two clueless friends, whose luck goes from bad to worse when they both lose their jobs on the same day. For Carrey’s Lloyd Christmas, his recovery of a suitcase prompts him and Daniels’s Harry Dunne to head to Aspen, Colorado to track down the beautiful Mary “Swanson” (Lauren Holly) on a road trip to end all road trips.

The film is mindless, harmless, and offers enough one-liners and sight gags to keep you chuckling. It is definitely a “dumb” one.

Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)

A silly time-travel comedy that follows four friends who accidentally transport themselves back to the 1980s while on a ski trip.

Hot Tub Time Machine is one film that does not require much emotion other than an occasional laugh. The film stars John Cusack, Rob Corddry, and Craig Robinson as three estranged friends who find the approach to middle age not what they had hoped for. Clarke Duke joins the three as Adam Yates’ (Cusack) slacker nephew Jacob.

The story finds the four heading out to Kodiak Valley Ski Resort after Lou’s (Corddry) non-suicide, suicide attempt. It was a place they used to hang out as kids. But when they get there, they see that much has changed, and none of it for the better. The four end up drinking while in their hotel hot tub and accidentally knock their energy drink onto the hot tub console.

The next day finds the four dealing with some strange occurrences when they finally realize they have somehow traveled back to 1986. The three friends are also now in possession of their younger bodies. When a mysterious repairman (Chevy Chase) appears, he warns them not to change anything as it could affect history. Well, what do you think happens?

Dumb, yes? Will you smile? Yes.

The Room (2003)

Often cited as one of the worst movies ever made, “The Room” is a hilariously bad drama that has developed a cult following for its over-the-top acting and bizarre plot.

One of the most famously “dumb” movies on record. The Room is a Tommy Wiseau production, one that he not only produced, but wrote, directed, and stars in as well. Starring a bunch of no-names, such as Wiseau, Greg Sestero, and Juliette Danielle, the story is about a love triangle between Wiseau’s banker Johnny, his fiancé Lisa (Danielle), and Johnny’s best friend Mark (Sestero).

There has been publication after publication that has labeled The Room as the worst movie ever made. “Dumb” may not even do justice as the film has numerous subplots that go nowhere and are ultimately left unresolved. Wiseau has called the film a “black comedy” but viewers aren’t buying it.

Sharknado (2013)

A ridiculous disaster movie about a tornado filled with sharks that wreaks havoc on Los Angeles.

Those living in the Midwest can attest that tornadoes can be very scary beasts. Those living along the East and West coasts can also attest that sharks can also be scary beasts. So, why not combine them for the ultimate “dumb” scare?

Sharknado, if you can believe it, is already ten years old. The ultimate “dumb” disaster movie that started a trend of more “dumb” disaster flicks stars Tara Reid (American Pie franchise) and Ian Ziering (90210 fame) as exes who must figure out a way to dodge sharks when tornados turn shark-infest flood waters into man-eating tornados of death.

Kung Pow! Enter the Fist (2002)

A spoof of martial arts movies that features a dubbed-in character named The Chosen One, who sets out to avenge his family’s death and save the day.

Kung Pow! Enter the Fist has got to be one of the best “dumb” movies on the planet. The film is a parody of cheesy martial arts films, somehow made even cheesier, that was made using actual footage from the 1976 martial arts film, Tiger & Crane Fists. Then, new footage was shot and incorporated to make a brand new dumb, but hilarious, film.

Steve Oedekerk was the mastermind behind this film as the director, writer, and star. Known as The Chosen One, he finds himself wandering from town to town on the lookout for the man who killed his family and who also tried to kill him as a baby.

With character names such as The Chosen One, Master Tang, Master Pain (who likes to go by the name of Betty), Wimp Lo, Whoa, and Chew Fat Lip, you know what you are in for. When you see “Tonguey,” you will truly understand why Kung Pow is one of those dumb, non-heavy films to watch.

The film is horribly dubbed, which is on purpose and hilarious and goes along with the sight gags, of which there are plenty. Sit back for this one and be prepared for the ultimate dumb fun.

If you like your movies dumb or are just looking for something to watch that won’t bog you down, the above five will do the trick. You may find yourself rolling your eyes a time or two, but make no mistake about it, you’ll thank us later.
