Doctor Who Spinoff Bringing Back Fan Favorite Doctor

From feature-length to series form, Paul McGann’s Doctor Who will be returning to the TARDIS in one of the show’s spin-offs. According to The Mirror, McGann, who appeared in the 1996 TV film, is set to take on the mystifying world all over again, but this time with his own series.

His short-form appearance would mark the second time McGann’s Time Lord hopped into the role following his feature-length production, with the character featured in the 50th anniversary special as well as the Jodie Whittaker 2022 special, The Power of the Doctor.

The McGann-centered spin-off news comes just weeks before the show’s set of 60th-anniversary specials kicks off. David Tennant will return as the Doctor with the beloved Catherine Tate along for the ride as Donna Noble. The trio of specials will also include Neil Patrick Harris as the villain, the Toymaker, Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, Karl Collins as Shaun Temple, Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham, Yasmin Finney as Rose, Miriam Margolyes as the voice of The Meep, Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, and the late Bernard Cribbins in the role of Wilfred Mott.

Since teaming with Disney to bring fans the entire Whoniverse all in one place, the BBC has been hard at work churning out a multitude of new content to keep longtime fans happy. Meanwhile, those new to the sprawling world of the Doctor Who franchise can find Seasons 1-13 on Max prior to the specials and new season which will be available only on Disney+. That means that plenty of adventures with the Time Lord are currently awaiting Max subscribers.

David Tennant Returns For The Anniversary Specials

Along with the David Tennant and Catherine Tate-led trio of episodes to celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary, an entirely new title dubbed Tales of the TARDIS will bring Doctor Who and companions through the ages together for a brand-new story. Premiering on November 1, the show featured a slew of duos including Maureen O’Brien and Peter Purves, Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury, Katy Manning and Daniel Anthony, Peter Davison and Janet Fielding, Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant, and Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred. Part reunion special, part fresh adventure, Tales of the TARDIS is one for those diehard Who fans to take a trip down memory lane with their favorites of yesteryear.

Ncuti Gatwa Is The Fifteenth Doctor

After all the excitement of the Doctor Who 60th-anniversary event and the holiday special to follow, the Time Lord will be back in 2024 with Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa appearing as the Fifteenth Doctor. Russel T. Davies is making his grand return to the production as the show’s head writer and executive producer. Davies previously took control of the franchise from 2005 to 2010, creating some of the most beloved adventures to come from the sci-fi project. Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor will be joined by Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday as his companion. 

The Specials Premiere November 25 On Disney+
