What do you get when you cross Wile E. Coyote and years of receipts for Acme products that have made him worse for wear? You guessed it, a civil lawsuit. Though we thought Coyote vs Acme would never see the light of day because the project was shelved in 2023, the film has since been completed, and we’re now getting a first look at the upcoming live-action Looney Tunes-based movie.

As of this writing, there is no set release date for Coyote vs Acme. But if the image is any indication, we will be thrown into Who Framed Roger Rabbit Territory.

It’s not often that we see cartoon animation so expertly superimposed over live-action, but we’re here for it and can’t wait to see how everything will play out.

Justice For Wile E. Coyote?

If you’re familiar with Wile E. Coyote’s past run-ins with the Road Runner that have graced our screens since 1949, you’ll be excited to know that the former may finally experience the justice he so desperately desires.

Centered on a lawsuit between the Acme Corporation and Wile E. Coyote, Coyote vs Acme will step away from the winding desert roads we’re familiar with and bring us to the courtroom.

A Courtroom Case

To complicate matters, Wile E.’s lawyer (Will Forte) will be fighting a personal battle of his own, as his former boss (John Cena) now represents the Acme Corporation.

We’d be lying if we told you that we absolutely cannot wait to see the evidence presented to the judge and jury in the form of mishap after an explosive mishap on Wile E. Coyote’s part.

Release Pushed Back

Based on a 1990 New Yorker article of the same name, Coyote vs Acme‘s story was written by James Gunn, Jeremy Slater, and Samy Burch. Samy Burch then penned the screenplay based on the collaborative effort, and James Gunn also functioned as an executive producer on the project.

On a different timeline, Coyote vs Acme would have already made its premiere. Originally set for a July 21, 2023 release, Warner Bros. Discovery removed the film from its release slate and replaced it with Barbie.

However, after the studio received a considerable amount of backlash from filmmakers, animation studios, and talent representatives, the project eventually moved forward to completion this past November.

Distribution Still Not Set

At present, Coyote vs Acme has been vetted by potential buyers, but a deal has not yet materialized. It has been rumored, however, that Amazon MGM Studios, Apple Studios, and Netflix have all expressed interest in securing the distribution rights for the film.

Netflix and Paramount Pictures have both made bids on Coyote vs Acme, but we’re still waiting for further developments.

Wait A Little Longer

Until a hard offer is made, we won’t have a definitive release date for Coyote vs Acme. If we had to speculate, a Netflix deal would lead to a straight-to-streaming release, but Paramount Pictures would likely pursue a theatrical release, as well as a possible day-and-date release.

We’re probably going to have to wait a little while longer for further developments on the distribution front. But given what we currently know about the project, it’s safe to say that Coyote vs Acme will finally get the release that it deserves.
