Chris Evans is going out on his own. That is, he is going to be part of a film with a premise culled from his own imagination. Evans will now be playing Gene Kelly in an untitled project that was conceived solely by the actor. Gene Kelly is a famous actor, dancer, and singer that starred in films such as Singin’ in the Rain, On the Town, and An American in Paris. Evans will be portraying Kelly in a film where a 12-year-old boy is working on the MGM Lot in 1952. The boy begins to create an imaginary friendship with Kelly as the actor works on his next film.

There is no studio attached to the film, but Chris Evans is said to be pairing with Mark Kassen to produce the film. Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s T-Shirt Productions will be producing. They have tapped John Logan to write the script. This will be a reunion for Evans, Johson, and Bergman, as they all worked together on Knives Out. They all likely cultivated a meaningful relationship during the shooting of that film that they hope to recreate in this new Gene Kelly film.

John Logan is an Academy Award-nominated screenwriter. He was nominated two times for Best Original Screenplay for Gladiator and The Aviator. He was also nominated for Best Adapted Script for the film Hugo. Logan certainly has a strong resume and the fact that he is going to be writing this film for Chris Evans could mean that we might be seeing a strong Oscar-worthy film. Rian Johnson directed Knives Out and has also returned to direct Knives Out 2, which is currently in post-production. Knives Out 3 has also been announced with Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman attached to produce and direct.

Chris Evans recently ended his long-tenured trip in the MCU as fan-favorite Captain America. Since then, he has appeared in Knives Out, a small cameo in the new film Don’t Look Up, and will be playing the voice for Buzz Lightyear in the Pixar film, Lightyear. Lightyear is set to premiere on June 17, 2022. Evans has become a favorite among Hollywood actors quite simply for playing one of the world’s most beloved superheroes. There is no telling if he might reprise his role as Ransom Drysdale in Knives Out 2 or 3, though a cameo would be very welcomed as he was one the best characters in the initial film.

Chris Evans is also rumored to be reuniting with Scarlett Johansson in the Little Shop of Horrors reboot. Evans is allegedly going to be playing Orin Scrivello. Evans has carved out a good place in Hollywood for himself and it is exciting to see he is now going to be appearing in a film that he thought of. It’s not often actors transition to the writing or directing role, but it sounds as if that could be where he is headed. His upcoming Gene Kelly film is likely not going to see the light of day until late 2023 or early 2024.
