Castlevania: Nocturne

The fantastic animated Castlevania Netflix series is getting a sequel called Castlevania: Nocturne, and Netflix finally dropped the full trailer for the upcoming spin-off series. The trailer heavily focuses on protagonist Richter Belmont (Edward Bluemel), who is a descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades from the original series. Of course, the trailer is also heavy on the bloody and kinetic animation that helped to make the first series such a critical success.

Netflix has released a trailer for the upcoming sequel series Castlevania: Nocturne.

Castlevania: Nocturne is set in 1792 during the French Revolution, and Richter Belmont finds himself having to join forces with some other vampire hunters and magicians to take down the vampire queen Erzsebet Bathory (Franka Potente) and the cult that believes her to be some kind of vampire Messiah. We see some of Richter’s new friends in the trailer, many of whom are familiar names from the Konami video game franchise the shows are based on.

Since Castlevania: Nocturne adapts aspects of the Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night video games, it brings some characters from those games along for the ride. One character that is heavily featured in the trailer is Maria Renard (Pixie Davies), who was a playable character in both of those games.

Annette (Thuso Mbedu) is also featured in the trailer, who game fans will recognize as Richter’s love interest in the game, though her sorcery in the trailer indicates she’ll likely have a much more action-oriented role in the animated adaptation.

The cast and characters of Castlevania: Nocturne is rounded out by Nastassja Kinski as Tera, Sydney James Harcourt as Edouard, and Zahn McClarnon as Olrox. The series is created and written by Clive Bradley with Sam Deats directing. Powerhouse Animation Studios also returned as the primary animation studio after animating the first series.

Fans of Castlevania won’t have long to wait for this series, as Netflix announced that Nocturne is set to come out on September 28. However, you can catch the first episode a day early on Twitch, as Netflix also announced its first ever Drop 01 livestream event. The livestream event will not only be showing off the first episode of the new series, but also surprise announcements and sneak peeks of other highly-anticipated Netflix animated shows.

The Castlevania: Nocturne Drop 01 event will stream on on Wednesday, September 27 at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET and will broadcast on Netflix’s Twitch channel. If this event turns out to bring in a lot of viewers, it seems likely we’ll see more of these types of events in the future. Hopefully, the surprise announcements and sneak peeks are just as intriguing as the first episode of Nocturne.

Castlevania On Netflix

In the meantime, checking out Netflix’s first Castlevania animated series is a must if you haven’t already seen it. It’s easily one of the best animated shows that Netflix has made, and it follows Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Alucard as they defend the kingdom of Wallachia from the wrath of Dracula and other vampiric forces.

Along with the fantastic animation and story, the series featured a star-studded cast that included Richard Armitage, Jason Isaacs, Peter Stormare, Theo James, Jamie Murray, Malcolm McDowell, Titus Welliver, and more.
