Brie Larson still has a vital role to play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel. She has her own sequel in the future, she will be inspiring another new superheroine, and we bet she has a part to play in the future of whatever the Avengers ends up being. Needless to say, there will be plenty of Captain Marvel on your screens for the next few years. And it turns out she will be popping up in another Marvel Cinematic Universe entry in the not-too-distant future. And it is actually one we scooped a month ago.
The website Crazy Days and Nights has made a post that says Brie Larson has been filming a Captain Marvel cameo for Thor: Love and Thunder in secret. As we mentioned in our original exclusive, Thor: Love and Thunder will be a galaxy-hopping adventure, so it makes sense for Captain Marvel to show up as the characters make their way across space. And, it will probably act as some kind of setup for Captain Marvel 2. We are guessing that the level of secrecy being undergone to keep Carol Danvers out of any set photos means that she is going to be dropping some significant setup in her scene. Everything we are hearing makes it sound like she will definitely be the focus of Thor: Love and Thunder‘s post-credits stinger.
Of course, that could not be the case. Brie Larson could show up in Thor: Love and Thunder in a similar way that she appeared in Avengers: Endgame. She was only in a few scenes in that movie, but they were crucial moments and reinforced just how super strong the character of Captain Marvel is. Could she play the same kind of role in Thor: Love and Thunder? Showing up to help save the heroes from some superpowered threat? And will she get the chance to share any scenes with Natalie Portman while Jane Foster has the power of Thor? It would feel like a massive missed opportunity to not have two mega-powered superheroines on screen at the same time. Hopefully, this is part of the plan with Larson’s secret role in the film.
Captain Marvel 2 is currently undergoing pre-production and Brie Larson is getting ready to start shooting soon. It makes sense that they would bring her onto the set of another Marvel Cinematic Universe movie that was already filming to help keep that trademarked connectivity that the franchise has become famous for. Every Marvel movie ends up being an advertisement for the next one in some way, so having Captain Marvel pop in during the events of Thor: Love and Thunder will help reestablish the character’s importance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and get fans excited about her upcoming sequel.
Thor: Love and Thunder is currently set to premiere in theaters on May 2, 2022. We will have to see if scheduling stays the way it is due to the pandemic and all the major movie scheduling changes we have seen and continue to see.
