The long-awaited trailer for Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness trailer is here. Many were wondering where the next chapter would take them, given that Marvel is deeply embedded in their storylines of the multiverse. Strange appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home as a result of Peter Parker messing with the timelines causing a giant mess that saw characters and villains from all the iterations of Spider-Man appear. Now Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) must battle himself and what appears to be a more evil version of the Scarlet Witch.

See Benedict Cumberbatch in the trailer below:

The trailer seems to pick up right where WandaVision left off, as Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) seeks out Wanda Maximoff. Fans of the character will know her as the Scarlet Witch. WandaVision saw Maximoff hold an entire town hostage as she tried to make sense of the blip that took out half the world, and Thanos killing Vision for the Mind Stone. Maximoff was seen at the end of the series reading some sort of evil text. Now, the trailer shows Strange approach her and claim that he is not there about Westview, the town that she held captive with her magic.

Strange asks if she knows anything about the multiverse, and there is background dialogue that is mentioning the same subject, giving way to the idea that he will have to stop the multiverse from going crazy. What is even more interesting is that we see Benedict Cumberbatch times two, as the trailer ends with Doctor Strange approaching Doctor Strange. If anyone is a fan of the What If… Marvel series, you would have seen the evil Doctor Strange. Now it appears that Strange will have to battle himself.

The multiverse has already proven that it brings in different iterations of characters from different timelines, so it would make sense that there would be an evil Doctor Strange coming out of the woodwork. Especially considering one of the biggest lines from the trailer hints at Doctor Strange being the biggest threat to the world. If there is indeed a Benedict Cumberbatch doppelganger in the film, it will be interesting to see how they make him act. Fans got a small dose of that in What If…, but now we get to see the live-action version.

Even though the talk about heavy reshoots has happened, it shouldn’t worry fans too much. Those reshoots lasted six weeks and six days, but sources working on the film claimed that “We’ve had bigger reshoots on other MCU movies.” Sam Raimi getting back into the Marvel directing side of things and having to direct someone like Benedict Cumberbatch is likely a big undertaking and they are likely ensuring they get the best version of the film.

Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Doctor Strange along with Benedict Wong as Wong and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff. Newcomers, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Xochitl Gomez, help to round out this already amazing cast. Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit theaters in May of 2022. This film is sure to add even more mayhem to the growing multiverse of Marvel films.
