Avengers 5 Is Dead, Being Canceled By Marvel?

It’s no secret that fans feel like the MCU has had some quality control issues in recent years. For every win like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there has been a Secret Invasion that has left fans feeling cold. Now, there’s a theory out there that Marvel might end up nixing the anticipated Avengers: The Kang Dynasty movie altogether.

A new rumor suggests Marvel will avoid dealing with the controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors by canceling Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

This rumor comes from the YouTube channel Beyond the Trailer, run by Grace Randolph, and Randolph mentions that she hasn’t heard anything about Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in the rumor mill lately and that it might not even be needed (via Cosmicbook.news).

In her video breakdown, Grace says that Deadpool 3 is actually going to set up Secret Wars, saying, “Also once people see Deadpool 3, they’re gonna be like ‘Uh, well, I just want to see Secret Wars.’ I don’t need to see anything before that.’

It’s also possible that Marvel is waiting until the results of the Jonathan Majors trial before deciding on how involved they want Kang to be in the future of the MCU.

Of course, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty originally seemed like it would be the lead-up to Secret Wars in a similar way to how Infinity War was the set-up for Endgame. However, if it’s true that Deadpool 3 sets those dominoes up instead, it does make it seem like The Kang Dynasty might be a bit superfluous.

Randolph also claims that Marvel likely hasn’t made any concrete decisions yet, but since the project hasn’t begun filming, there’s a chance the studio won’t go through with it.

It’s also possible that Marvel is waiting until the results of the Jonathan Majors trial before deciding on how involved they want Kang to be in the future of the MCU. Majors was arrested on allegations of domestic abuse earlier this year, and his trial has been delayed to October 25. Marvel has remained silent on the situation so far, so it’s certainly plausible that the fate of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty depends on the results of this trial.

His first appearance as a major antagonistic force was in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which received mixed to negative reviews from fans…

In any case, we will be seeing Jonathan Majors again in the upcoming second season of Loki, as he plays a Kang variant named Victor Timely. Just as the first season of Loki helped to kick off the multiverse saga in earnest, it seems highly likely that the second season will have major repercussions for the ongoing storyline of the MCU. Whether or not the season will set up Avengers: The Kang Dynasty remains to be seen.

It’s also unclear how truly invested fans are in the multiverse saga and the Kang storyline. Kang has only had two major appearances in the MCU so far, and he arguably wasn’t a villain in one of them.

His first appearance as a major antagonistic force was in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which received mixed to negative reviews from fans — something Marvel might take into consideration when deciding on making Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

For now, this is all speculation. Marvel still has Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on its release slate, and it has a release date set for May 1, 2026. No matter what, it does seem like the MCU is focused on getting us to Secret Wars one way or another, but we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out.
