The Most Iconic Halloween Movie Is Returning To Theaters
The original 1978 Halloween is being re-released in theaters this month.
The most iconic Halloween movie is returning to theaters: Halloween. Yes, the 1978 iconic horror film that starred Jamie Lee Curtis battling the evil Michael Myers is being re-released once again. This is huge news considering the popularity that has been brought forth from the newly rebooted Halloween franchise that has also reunited Curtis’s Laurie Strode with her brother.
The original Halloween film isn’t the only Michel Myers film coming back to theaters. It has also been announced that Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers are also joining in on the release, giving fans a chance to watch a bit of a marathon. These three films are going to hit theaters throughout this month and will be featured in around 417 theaters across the United States.
For those who have not seen the original Halloween in theaters, it might be the time to go back and witness one of the most iconic slashers. The 2018 Halloween, Halloween Kills, and the upcoming Halloween Ends are linked to the original film, and will finally end with Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Myers battling it out one final time. A traditional Michael Myers marathon could also happen, and everyone can get caught up on the films that help to shape an entire genre.
Halloween was released on October 25, 1978, in cinemas and drive-ins nationwide. The film followed Michael Myers, a tormented boy who murders his sister in cold blood, as he is then sent to an insane asylum for 15 years before he is meant to be transferred for a hearing for the murder of his sister. Dr. Loomis deems Michael as “pure evil” and hopes the trial will lock him up for life, but Michael escapes to rain vengeance down on Haddonfield.
Halloween has become a horror fixture and helped to put John Carpenter on the map, as he directed and scored the film. The score of the film would go on to be one of the most recognizable in the history of cinema. The film would also be one of the most successful interdepend films of all time as it made $70 million against a budget of $300,000.
Halloween movies have dwindled over the years after many sequels were devised and released. However, the 2018 Halloween film retconned everything that had been released previously, apart from the original film. Both the 2018 reboot and Halloween Kills sequel have been a hit amongst audiences, and the final chapter of the series is Halloween Ends, which is set to release on October 14, 2022.
Jamie Lee Curtis will reprise her role as Laurie Strode one final time in Halloween Ends, and it is quite fitting for fans to be able to see the original movie and the end of the reboot within a month of one another. We can’t wait to see the end of this new trilogy, and we are certainly going to hit the theater to make sure to bask in the glory of a horror film that transformed the genre completely.
