Things are about to get sweaty all over again on Apple TV+ as the NBC Universal streamer has just announced that Physical Season 2 will hit the platform on June 3. The Rose Byrne led series will consist of a 10-episode follow up season with new episodes hitting the airwaves every Friday. Along with the exciting premiere reveal, the network also dropped a slew of first-look images giving fans a taste of what they can expect from the next season in Annie Weisman’s dramedy series.

Finding its location in 1980s San Diego, Physical follows the life of Rose Byrne’s character, Sheila, a housewife who’s searching for acceptance within her own body. While helping her husband, Danny (Rory Scovel), take on a new career in politics, Sheila discovers the strangely addicting world of aerobics and does just about anything she can to make the most of her new hobby turned obsession. In Season 2, a newly confident Sheila has just released her first fitness video to much acclaim. However, she’ll soon find that not everyone is in her aerobics driven corner and that there are many standing in her way to the top. While Danny’s political career heats up, Sheila begins to question his morals and viewpoints. Emotions get even more muddled for the newly successful fitness instructor when she finds her eye wandering outside of her marriage.

Rose Byrne and much of the first season cast is back for more leotard-clad looks with new-to-the-series actor, Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), also signed on. Using his charm, Bartlett’s Vincent ‘Vinnie’ Green will prove to be a force to be reckoned with in the aerobics community. After all, he is the face of the most popular twilight infomercials and a weight-loss figure admired by many. One of the first-look photos show Bartlett and Byrne’s characters midworkout with smiles on their faces, leading us to believe Vinnie may be the new apple of Sheila’s eye. The rest of the faces fans can plan to catch on the next season of Physical include Dierdre Friel, Della Saba, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Paul Sparks.

Along with starring, Rose Byrne also serves Physical as an executive producer alongside Alexandra Cunningham, John McNamara, Sera Gamble, and Craig Gillespie. Marty Adelstein and Beck Clements serve under the Tomorrow Studios banner with director, Stephanie Laing.

While the series faced mixed reviews from critics, Rose Byrne’s performance was a standout hit. The critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave Physical a 65% approval rating citing a poor storyline along with underdeveloped characters for its low score, but gave Byrne credit for being a “magnetic” actress. Following an initial breakthrough into Hollywood via films such as Troy and 28 Weeks Later, it wasn’t until her role in the drama thriller, Damages, that Byrne’s career would really take off. Her performance as the quick witted attorney, Ellen Parsons, would land the Australian born actress two Golden Globe nominations as well as two Primetime Emmy nominations. Clearly Byrne and the rest of the crew behind Physical must be doing something right to earn the show a second season on Apple TV+.
