Since J.J. Abrams took the Star Wars: Episode VII job for Disney and Lucasfilm, many have wondered what he will bring to the Star Wars universe. Abrams is known as a modern-day auteur director with his own style signatures, including reusing the same actors in his movies. So when Simon Pegg’s name was recently rumored for a role in Star Wars: Episode VII, it seemed perfectly reasonable. But apparently a rumor is all it was.

Simon Pegg recently tweeted that he is not currently involved with Star Wars: Episode VII. The British actor also stated that he has no idea how this rumor got started. Read Simon Pegg’s tweet below:

Pegg, of course, played Scotty in both Star Trek and the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness. He also appeared in Mission: Impossible III in 2006 and the Abrams-produced Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in 2011. He’s set to star opposite Nick Frost in the upcoming The World’s End for director Edgar Wright. The World’s End is the final film in the trio’s “Three Flavours Cornetto,” or “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy,” along with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Considering he does work with J.J. Abrams quite a bit and he’s a big Star Wars fan, it seems like Pegg would have been a natural pairing for Star Wars, but as it stands now, he is not involved with the new film.

Star Wars: Episode VII is slated for release sometime in 2015.
