See Wyatt Russell On Set Of Kurt Russell Classic 30 Years Ago

By Jason Collins | Published

Tombstone turned 30 just recently. In the name of a modern classic of the Western genre it has become, Entertainment Tonight shared a video interview of Kurt Russell from the set, in which you can also see young Wyatt Russell at just seven years old.

And no, for those of you wondering, Wyatt Russell wasn’t a part of the cast. Instead, he’s seen behind the scenes along with his mother, Kurt Russell’s partner, actress Goldie Hawn. Tombstone, on the other hand, is regarded as one of Kurt Russell’s best films ever, and despite very challenging production, it ranked third during its opening weekend at the US box office and has since gone on to become one of the greatest Westerns ever made, as its directly tied to one of the most prominent events in the American history—the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

Various online communities suggest that Wyatt Russell was named after Wyatt Earp, portrayed by Kurt Russell in Tombstone, due to Kurt’s fascination with the historical figure.

The movie was loosely based on the real events that took place in the 1880s in Southeast Arizona, including the Gunfight itself and the Earp Vendetta Ride. Tombstone depicts several outlaws and lawmen, such as Kurt Russell’s Wyatt Earp, William Brocius, Johnny Ringo, and Doc Holliday.

It was well-received by the critics, who praised the movie for its acting, directing, and story, and particular praise actually went to Val Kilmer’s memorable performance as the hard-drinking Doc Holliday in the film.

As for Wyatt Russell’s connection to the film, well, the actor was seven at the time of Tombstone’s release, and he had no role in the film. However, various online communities suggest that the actor was named after Wyatt Earp, portrayed by Kurt Russell in Tombstone, due to Kurt’s fascination with the historical figure.

Furthermore, Wyatt’s grandfather, Bing Russell, had a small role in 1957’s Gunfight at the O.K. Corral film, in which Wyatt Earp was also played by Burt Lancaster. However, there’s no official confirmation on whether Wyatt was really named after the historical figure.

Wyatt Russell in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

Both Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell have recently starred in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and both have publicly stated that they would happily remake The Last Starfighter, one of the most underrated sci-fi action-adventure movies of the ‘80s.

It was quite refreshing to see both the father and the son expressing their desire to remake the classic that has been seemingly forgotten by Hollywood and has drifted from the public’s consciousness—apart from the small and dedicated fan base the movie has accrued over the years.

Tombstone has since gone on to become one of the greatest Westerns ever made, as its directly tied to one of the most prominent events in the American history—the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, starring Wyatt Russell and his dad, Kurt Russell, is set in 2015, one year after the re-emergence of Godzilla. The series moves back and forth through time, with Kurt Russell portraying Lee Shaw, a former US Army colonel who joins the series’ two scientists involved in the early development of Monarch as the overarching organization in the Monsterverse.

Since the series also deals with the narrative set in the past, Wyatt Russell is in charge of portraying young Lee Shaw, the role portrayed by his father in the present-day narrative.
