Fans of the HBO series Westworld were disappointed when the show never got its final season – but they weren’t the only ones. Star Evan Rachel Wood also wishes that the show would have gotten its proper ending, especially because she also wants to know what happens.

Wood spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the doomed final season, saying, “It was devastating in a lot of ways because, first of all, they don’t tell us where the show is going,” adding, “We didn’t get to have that and so after building an arc and a character for almost 10 years and not getting the payoff at the end to see where it was all going — I think for us and the audience, it was awful in a lot of ways.”

While the Westworld ending certainly works in its own way, the fact that there’s still a story left on the table makes fans of the sci-fi wanting more. In the fourth and final season of the show, Wood’s character Dolores sort of soft reboots the show as she enters a digital plane of existence known as the Sublime. This has the potential of giving the mostly extinct human race a second chance, as the series ends with Dolores returning to Sweetwater, which is where the series started.

Season 5 And The Sublime

In other words, the fifth season of Westworld could have shown Dolores’ experiences in the Sublime and shown us how things might have ended up. Unfortunately, that will likely never come to be, though the ambiguous nature of the current series finale does work as an ending. It may not be the most satisfying one there is, but it does work.

Everyone Wants To Know What Would Happen

The fact is, Westworld was losing ratings after the first season, so it didn’t come as a massive surprise that HBO announced that there wouldn’t be a fifth season. But, as Wood’s comments show, people want to know what would have happened next. Wood even said that she touched base with series creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan to ask where they were going to take the story.

There’s Still Hope

Wood said, laughing, “I asked the creators after we got canceled, ‘Can you please just tell me how you’re going to end?’ And they wouldn’t tell me.” Her comments did have a small glimmer of hope for Westworld fans, though, as she added, “I think because, I don’t know, maybe somehow, someway, in some iteration we’ll get to finish it, but I still don’t know.” Those hopes might be slim, but HBO is no stranger to bringing back shows for a movie sometime after the show has ended.

James Marsden Wants More Westworld

Funnily enough, Evan Rachel Wood is far from the only cast member who has wished for more Westworld, as he co-star James Marsden has previously said, “I’d be lying to you if I told you that the way we ended Westworld wasn’t a disappointment,” adding, “I’m never going to speak without gratitude about any of my experiences, but it would have been nice to be able to complete the story we wanted to finish.” Marsden had similar hopes about bringing the show back, too, saying, “But who knows — maybe there’s some world where it can get completed somehow.” Evan Rachel Wood and James Marsden are both obviously on board to make some more Westworld, so it sounds like the execs over at Warner Bros Discovery should get on it already.Source: The Hollywood Reporter
