Two months ago, Tucker Carlson was let go from his show Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News which inspired him to start his own political show on Twitter, naturally calling it Tucker on Twitter. However, the new show might be short lived since Fox News sent the right wing TV personality a cease and desist letter, according to Deadline. The conservative news channel is urging Tucker Carlson to stop his Twitter show until his contract with Fox News runs out in January 2025.

Tucker Carlson was let go by Fox News just days after they settled their defamation lawsuit that cost the company over $700 million. The lawsuit was started by Dominion Voting Systems who claimed that Fox News spread misinformation about the 2020 election results, specifically that the election was rigged, and that Joe Biden was not the winner. To help the company try and save face, Fox News let Tucker Carlson go since he often spoke about the misinformation on his show Tucker Carlson Tonight.

After the two split, Tucker Carlson was told that he could not breach his contract by working at a different news outlet or by creating his own political talk show. Rather than staying quiet, he chose to create Tucker on Twitter, a free show he shares with his 8.3 million Twitter followers. Attorney Bryan Freedman, who represents Tucker Carlson, has said that Fox News breached their contract with the talk show host first, so therefore there is no validity to the non-compete provision.

On May 9, Tucker Carlson shared a video on Twitter simply captioned “We’re back” where he touted the social media network as the perfect platform for free speech. He shared, “The news you consume is a lie,” claiming news outlets intentionally withhold certain facts and perspectives. He went on to say that he is bringing the former Fox News show to Twitter, where he will have the freedom to share real news with anyone who will listen.

On June 6, he made good on his promise by airing the first episode of Tucker on Twitter, a 10-minute video that gave viewers an update on the war in Ukraine and the attack on the Nord Stream gas pipelines. This was quickly followed up by a second episode on June 8, where he discussed how to control a country and why it’s important to cling to your taboos. The third episode will air on Tuesday, June 13, and Tucker Carlson will discuss the latest news on former President Donald Trump’s federal indictment.

The owner of Twitter, billionaire Elon Musk, has previously stated that he had not signed a deal with Tucker Carlson. After seeing that Tucker on Twitter drew in nearly 55 million views, Elon Musk has encouraged other right-wing talk show hosts like Rachel Maddow and Don Lemon to start their own shows on Twitter.

While some Twitter users are anxiously waiting for more episodes of Tucker on Twitter, others are waiting to see how the talk show host will respond to the cease and desist letter from Fox News.
