The anticipation for Thor: Love and Thunder is through the roof at this point. The fourth installment of the Thor side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has critics and audiences buzzing prior to the film’s July 8th release. As part of Phase 4, the movie is set to bring the character of Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, after the events that took place during 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. As of this week, Rotten Tomatoes is showing a mostly positive reaction from critics, which has, in turn, sparked quite the response from fans eagerly awaiting the film’s debut.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Thor: Love and Thunder currently has a fresh rating. The Tomatometer ranks the movie with a 72% rating based on 81 critic reviews on the site. This rating may change once the film is seen by a larger critical base, and since it has not been released to American audiences, the Audience Score is not reflected on the website just yet. While many critics are praising the movie’s humor and chemistry between the two leads, Marvel fans are providing feedback via social media in many ways.

On Twitter, many fans of the Thor franchise have taken to the social media platform to air their grievances towards Rotten Tomatoes’ current critic scores of Thor: Love and Thunder. According to one user named @genallyx, the fact that Rotten Tomatoes has already ranked the new movie means nothing to them, as they state that the only opinion on a movie just be your own and not that of critics. They go on to say that “how you felt about a movie is the most valid” review out there.

Other Twitter users have shared their thoughts on Rotten Tomatoes’ news as well by comparing it to its predecessor, Thor: Ragnarok. User @RebornShadows wrote about how the studio could have possibly made a Thor: Ragnarok sequel with costar Christian Bale, and still possibly mess the movie up altogether. Like Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder is set to bring a lot of comedy mixed with the action that Marvel audiences have come to expect from the God of Thunder. Also directed by Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi, the newest installment will have Natalie Portman reprise her role as Jane Foster. Jane will expand on her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by assuming the powers of Mighty Thor, to help defeat Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher.

As Thor: Love and Thunder flies into theaters this weekend, it will be interesting to see how its score changes on Rotten Tomatoes once more critics and audiences have a chance to see it. With only trailers to go off of and some critic reviews, time will tell how the movie does at the box office and the reception it will have with a fan base loyal to the core. One thing is certain, however, that the star power of the film’s leads in Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, and Russell Crowe might just tip Thor: Love and Thunder into first place among American audiences on July 8th.
