Peacemaker’s explosive season finale has everyone talking about Henry Cavill’s Superman. While the series proved that DC’s extended universe can survive without the Justice League, it still proved how important the comic head honchos are with the fanbase.  The focus of the finale lands on the brief appearance by the Justice League, but more so the absence of current Superman and Wonder Woman celebrities, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot. Using stand-ins to portray the silhouettes of both, it appears the man behind Peacemaker’s Superman is letting the kryptonite go to his head, as he campaigns for himself to become DC’s next Superman.

If you haven’t already seen the viral hashtag #MySuperman yet, you may not be aware that the man filling in Henry Cavill’s shoes for the Peacemaker finale was that of a fairly unknown actor, Brad Abramenko. Abramenko has previously held small roles in other DC projects like CW’s Batwoman and The Flash. But it appears that after donning the suit himself, Abramenko hopes to land a recurring role as the Smallville native. Since standing in as basically a stunt double on Peacemaker, he has taken to social media to hype a campaign to become the next Superman.

Yesterday, Abramenko posted a picture of himself wearing the infamous Superman suit with the following caption: “1” He also followed up his caption with plenty of relevant hashtags to get his post seen. Undoubtedly a dead ringer for the part, many users took to the comment section to show support to the hopeful actor. Not backing down, Abramenko treated Instagram to a second post fully suited up as the Man of Steel with a video flaunting his muscles and Clark Kent looks. The accompanying caption, paired with his #mysuperman hashtag, simply asked viewers if he should return for season 2 of Peacemaker. While there are no signs of him in the comment section, we can’t help but wonder if Henry Cavill has seen these posts.

Before going on, we have to address the very large elephant in the room. While it’s great to see aspiring young actors getting a chance in Hollywood, Brad Abramenko’s 10 seconds of fame in Peacemaker did nothing to prove that the actor has what it takes to become the next Superman. At the heart of it, simply looking the part is not going to cut it. Also, we have yet to even hear the actor speak as Clark Kent, let alone get a good look at his portrayal of the most famous superhero. However, Abramenko has received attention, and plenty of DC fans have shown the actor support. With that said, it appears the larger fanbase remains hopeful that Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman.

Henry Cavill first appeared as the Man of Steele in 2013 via Man of Steele. As a breakthrough role for the up-and-coming actor, his portrayal of Clark Kent was generally praised. The film grossed a worldwide total of $668 million, making it the highest-grossing solo Superman film of all time. Cavill reprised his role as the vigilante three more times, also appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. To this day, the actor remains adamant that he would gladly don the suit again for future projects-even if his future with the studio remains unclear. And interestingly, he has also shown support for bringing in more actors to portray the hero in a multiversal sense. This could possibly open up opportunities for someone like Abramenko to return to the role in the future- but alas we realize the decision lies in the hands of the execs at Warner Bros. and DC.
