walking deadI don’t know if I should have gotten on the ball with this already, but I’d like to market a line of Walking Dead-themed bathroom products. Instead of shampoo and mouthwash, though, it’s just rotted human heads, and you’re actually just putting blood and viscera in your hair and mouth. It can’t miss! But people usually get into games more than they do washing up with filth, so let’s all celebrate the announcements for an upcoming mobile game based on the AMC series, and a Kickstarter campaign that aims to give the comic’s prison storyline the board game treatment. Soon, the only place you’ll be able to look without seeing TWD merchandising is your window…unless you have a walker treehouse or something.

First up is the sure thing. AMC and Next Games are teaming up for the series’ first mobile experience, and while it doesn’t have a name just yet, I’m guessing they’ll go with The Walking Dead: The Mobile Game. The game’s release will coincide with the start of the show’s fifth season, which will probably start in October. There are no hard and fast specifics about the game, though details will reportedly be released in the coming months. But Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen at least gave the project a tone.

Our take on the undead survival franchise will match the against-all-odds action and moment-to-moment tension of the TV series. We want to find that sweet spot where gameplay and narrative inform and reinforce one another. Like AMC’s The Walking Dead itself, we’re not giving away too many details right out the gate, but I can confidently state it’s unlike anything we’ve seen from The Walking Dead franchise on home or mobile gaming hardware before.

And for those of you who want your zombies in a two-dimensional form that doesn’t bother with pixels, The Walking Dead: The Prison board game is just right for you. Head on over to the game’s Kickstarter page to see how much you feel like donating to the cause. A standalone follow-up to Z-Man Games’ Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead: The Board Game (which is somehow not this game), this sequel is the brainchild of game designers Keith Trailins, Matt Wang, Brian David-Marshall, and Jason Greeno, and the co-production of MegaGigaOmniCorp, Inc. and Top 8, with the permission of Kirkman’s SkyBound imprint.

Essentially, this game works like the first, and has players picking one of six main characters (Rick, Michonne, Glenn, Andrea, Tyreese, or Dale) and pitting them against not only the zombies in the prison, but also those survivors hiding inside, including Dexter, Axel, Thomas, and Andrew. The point of the game is to acquire enough leadership points to take over the group, which means battles, rescues, and resource hoarding. The reward levels are kind of extravagant, and the game is planning on selling for $49.99 retail, so it had better be a damned fine product.

With 26 days to go, the campaign has raised almost $15,000 on an $81,000 goal. It seems like this will be a successful venture. To get a better look at the game and its creators, check out the promo video below.
