More Star Wars: Episode VII Photos Show Off The Millennium Falcon

By Brent McKnight | Updated

The Falcon!Star Wars: Episode VII has a problem, and that problem is someone keeps revealing new behind the scenes photos of the set to the public. You all know how much J.J. Abrams, Disney, and Lucasfilm all hate this kind of thing, so you can rest assured that there are a number of really pissed off studio execs and key players, and that thought makes us smile. Yesterday brought more than 40 photos of the sets in Abu Dhabi and a bunch of mussed up extras mugging for the camera, and today brings more than 20 new images, including some fan favorite pieces of Star Wars lore like the Millennium Falcon and an X-Wing Fighter.

Both of these galleries come from TMZ, but you have to wonder if there are multiple sources or moles within the production. Yesterday’s photos are obviously of the desert set of Abu Dhabi, which will serve as the stand-in for Luke Skywalker’s home world of Tatooine. The new ones come from inside a gargantuan warehouse or hanger where large-scale props are being constructed. It is possible that this location is in Abu Dhabi, especially considering that the space pig we got our first glimpse of yesterday is also shown in various stages of completion (this contraption apparently takes five puppeteers to operate, which sounds fantastic to us). We have also seen pictures of an At-At being built in the desert, so it’s possible, but I like to think that every extra and low-level assistant—all of whom are probably going to be fired in some massive purge—is running around snapping photos.

We’re not going to run these photos for legal reasons, but click HERE to see the TMZ gallery.

Earlier we saw a bunch of practical special effects, which, after the CGI-heavy prequels, is heartening for Star Wars fans, but getting our first look at the Millennium Falcon is even more exciting. Given that we’ve heard Han Solo (Harrison Ford) will play a central part in the action of Episode VII, we hoped the old girl was still kicking around, and now we know that she most certainly is. She looks like she’s seen better days, and could use a quick wash and a wax, but she was never the most beautiful craft to look at, was she? She’s got all kinds of character, though, and we like to believe she could still make the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, maybe not less, but still.

X-WingAnd if Luke (Mark Hamill) is around, he’s not the kind of guy who hitches a ride, he’s got his own wheels, or, you know, his own space wheels. His vehicle of choice has always been an X-Wing Fighter, and though we don’t know for sure that the craft in these pictures is his, we like to believe.

Yesterday Episode VII added 12 Years A Slave star Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie from Game of Thrones to a cast that already includes other newcomers Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, John Boyega, and Daisy Ridley, as well as returning franchise vets Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker. Star Wars: Episode VII opens everywhere on December 18, 2015.

This is the way.
