Star Wars: Episode VII: Adam Driver Could Play Han And Leia’s Son

Collectively, we spent so much time speculating about who the cast members of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII would be that it seemed like that was the end game all along. But, of course, there’s still an actual movie to make. Principal photography is scheduled to begin this week in Abu Dhabi, and now that things are getting rolling on that front, the wonder and conjecture has moved from who will be in the film to what roles the actors will play. One new rumor hints at the part of new addition Adam Driver may be different than we initially thought: he could play Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princes Leia’s (Carrie Fisher) son.
For months, the Girls star was continually linked to Episode VII, so when Disney and Lucasfilm made his participation official, he wasn’t one of the more shocking names on the list. The rumor was that he would play a new villain. He’s a unique looking individual, and the idea of him playing a Sith Lord, or something similar, sounded very plausible. With other reports circulating that Max Von Sydow would also be a villain—the working title The Ancient Fear is supposedly in reference to his character—many people suspected that those two would have a master/apprentice kind of thing going on. If this new information from Jedi News is correct, however, that may not be the case.
How reliable this bit of intelligence is remains to be seen, but he article says:
Sounds like Adam Driver is NOT going to play a villain…sort of. He will be playing the son of Han and Leia, and it seems he will be seduced to the Dark Side, and a main plot point for the movie will be their attempt to rescue him.
This doesn’t automatically disqualify the master/student dynamic. There is a very real possibility that Von Sydow could be the one who tempts Driver’s character over to the path of evil. It’s also still plausible that Driver could also remain on that trajectory and become one of the primary villain as the trilogy progresses. Maybe he’s this trilogy’s Vader.
If this is the case, and the primary action of Episode VII does revolve around trying to rescue Han and Leia’s son, it also lends credence to the earlier reports that Ford plays a major part, and that he is considered a co-lead. You know that Han will crawl through hell for the people he cares about, and you better believe that includes little Han Jr. And of course uncle Luke (Mark Hamill) will have to get in on the adventure.
This is all nothing but hearsay and conjecture at this point. Who knows when, or even if, we’ll learn about any potential plot details from Episode VII. After all, Abrams is the one who insisted Khan wasn’t in Star Trek Into Darkness right up until the movie premiered, so we might not know anything until December 18, 2015. But rest assured, as soon as we hear anything, you’ll be the first to know.
