DinobotsWhen Michael Bay said that the new Transformers trilogy will be a complete re-design of what we know from the widely popular franchise, we figured that Age of Extinction would feature new Autobots and Decepticons. When it came out that the fan-favorite Dinobots would appear in the new film, fans got excited to see Bay bring the pre-historic Transformers to life, and now we have our first, though admittedly oblique, look.

According to Seibertron, packaging for the Age of Extinction toy line reveals the Dinobots in their dinosaur state. The packaging features Grimlock (Tyrannosaurus Rex), Slag (Triceratops), Slash (Velociraptor), Swoop (Pterodactyl), and a mysterious Spinosaurus. The new-and-improved Optimus Prime also sits pretty on the front of the box. Considering the box art, this seems likely to be the box for a new Optimus Prime toy.

Seeing how Bay said that we would get a first look of Age of Extinction during this year’s Super Bowl, there’s a good chance we’ll see some Dinobots footage in the TV spot.

Recently, Bay had himself a melt down while on stage during the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. He was on stage with Samsung Executive Vice President Joe Stinziano to introduce the company’s first 105-inch curved Ultra HD TV, and to present footage from Age of Extinction. Apparently, Bay experienced technical difficulties with his teleprompter and couldn’t recover from the embarrassment. He later wrote an apology and explanation for the public display.

Age of Extinction is currently in post-production and is on track for its late June release date. Shortly after Transformers 4 footage premieres during the Big Game, the first teaser trailer should appear online and in theaters, most likely in front of the new RoboCop remake, which opens on February 12th. So far, everything we’ve seen looks like it will be as explosive as the first three films. Hopefully this new entry will have a brain and a heart, which was very much lacking in the earlier installments. Bay is just coming off the underrated Pain & Gain, so maybe he grew as a director after making such a thoughtful movie.

Age of Extinction takes place in Chicago, four years after the events of Dark of the Moon. The movie centers on an inventor named Cade, his teenage daughter Tessa, and her boyfriend Shane, as they “discover a buried Transformer which sets the stage for the return of the rest of the Transformers.” The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, T.J. Miller, Victoria Summer, Li Bingbing, Titus Welliver, Kelsey Grammer, and Peter Cullen.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hits theaters everywhere on June 27, 2014, in 3D and IMAX.
