Colin Baker Says There Are No Plans For Him To Return For Doctor Who’s 50th After All

Here we go again. Earlier this week we reported the very exciting rumor that all 11 Doctors — both living and dead — were going to return for a special episode of Doctor Who later this year. Just the prospect of getting Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant onscreen with Matt Smith was cool enough, but to bring back all of them? That would be something of a fan dream come true. Unfortunately, here comes Colin Baker to rain on our parade.
Doctor Who TV reports that somebody tweeted Baker, who played the Sixth Doctor from 1984 – 1986, and Baker denied the earlier story. Baker says, “Wish I could [tell you it was true] but alas apart from The Big Finish plans I am not aware of any 50th stories nor have I been approached.”
The “Big Finish plan” is the audio drama in which Baker is returning as the Doctor alongside some of his fellow time lords, Tom Baker (Fourth Doctor), Peter Davison (Fifth Doctor), Sylvester McCoy (Seventh Doctor), and Paul McGann (Eighth Doctor), as well as companions Louise Jameson (Leela), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Nicola Bryant (Peri), Sophie Aldred (Ace), and India Fisher (Charley Pollard). That drama, entitled The Light at the End, releases this November.
So, does this mean the story of all 11 Doctors returning is complete bunk? Not necessarily. Almost nothing has been confirmed at this point, so things may be in flux. Moffat and company may have that huge reunion in mind but they haven’t crossed all the t’s and dotted the i’s just yet. Or Baker could be playing dumb simply because they’re not ready to spring the surprise just yet. Either way, take everything with salt until there’s some official statement of what is to come.
The rumored reunion episode would have “resurrected” actors William Hartnell (First Doctor), Patrick Troughton (Second Doctor), and Jon Pertwee (Third Doctor) for brief flashbacks, likely through camera tricks, CGI, or some combination of the two.
