Following Jonathan Major’s recent verdict in which he was found guilty by a Manhattan jury of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment, Marvel dropped Majors from any future projects. Considering that the actor portrayed Kang, the next big bad in the MCU, fans took it upon themselves to fan-cast the actor that’s best suited for the role—and that actor is none other than Robert Downey Jr.

In a recently tweeted post, X user SelzerFX shared a clip of Robert Downey Jr posing as Kang, as previously seen in the Season One finale of Loki. However, what makes the thing even more interesting is the fact that SelzerFX actually inserted one of Robert Downey Jr.’s most epic roles into the video, the character of Kirk Lazarus, aka Hot LZ from the hit movie Tropic Thunder.

It’s entirely possible that Robert Downey Jr might make a comeback as Tony Stark from the Superior Iron Man storyline, which sees the iconic Marvel hero turn into a full-blown villain.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that Kirk Lazarus himself was also in the character of Lincoln Osiris, which only makes the whole video funnier.

Now, there’s stuff to unpack here. The posting of this video coincides with the current rumors suggesting that Robert Downey Jr. is making his return to the MCU in the upcoming Avengers movie because Disney and Marvel had to find a replacement for Majors’ Kang character.

While there wasn’t any official confirmation, at least not as of yet, it’s entirely possible that RDJ might make a comeback as Tony Stark from the Superior Iron Man storyline, which sees the iconic Marvel hero turn into a full-blown villain.

Robert Downey Jr.’s role in Tropic Thunder was that of an Australian method actor who undergoes a controversial procedure to darken his skin for his role as an African American soldier

This would be a great solution to the Majors/Kang problem because the Superior Iron Man is a master villain and a super-big-baddie opposed by numerous heroes in the comics. However, the creator of the aforementioned video had a different idea in mind, as he “fan-cast” Robert Downey Jr.’s Kirk Lazarus/Lincoln Osiris as Kang the Destroyer.

Now, here’s a sensitive part: Majors is an American actor of African descent, and considering that he already appeared in the MCU, replacing him with an actor of the same ethnicity would make sense.

However, Robert Downey Jr.’s role in Tropic Thunder was that of an Australian method actor who undergoes a controversial procedure to darken his skin for his role as an African American soldier, Sergeant Lincoln Osiris, in a Vietnam War film within the Tropic Thunder movie.

He’s just a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude. The role, as controversial as it sounds, was highly praised by the critics and the audiences, with several African-American journalists reacting positively to the character, as well as Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal.

Ultimately, while this is a humoristic take on the current situation within the MCU, Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the franchise has been highly debated and anticipated by the fans because, ultimately, he and the Suit are One.

We’d really like to see the Superior Iron Man on the silver screen—though Disney distances itself from theaters—and though previous reports suggested Tom Cruise taking on the role back in 2022, Robert Downey Jr. just seems like a better and more natural fit.
