Fans have been awaiting any news regarding the upcoming Walking Dead spinoff shows ever since the series concluded with season 11’s Rest in Peace back in November. The fan-favorite character, Daryl Dixon, as portrayed by Norman Reedus, is set to receive his own spinoff show, with Deadline reporting that four actors have been cast to lead the series alongside the motorcycle-driving zombie slayer. Fox Hunt‘s Eriq Ebanouey, My Night‘s Blanc Francard, The Tunnel‘s Romain Levi, The Last Deadly Mission‘s Anne Charrier, and big-screen newcomer Louis Puech Scigliuzzi are all set to star alongside Reedus.

The Walking Dead has become a major flagship series for AMC in recent years, particularly with other popular shows such as Breaking Bad and Mad Men airing their closing chapters in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Besides Fear the Walking Dead, which premiered in 2015 as the first spinoff of the Andrew Lincoln-led show, a number of additional spinoffs have been announced since the series finale. The spinoff with the most fan attention seems to be The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which will follow Daryl across France as he struggles to contend with the zombie apocalypse and its consequences across Europe.

According to the official synopsis of the Daryl Dixon spinoff, Daryl will open the series by washing ashore on the beaches of France and be forced to retrace the steps of how he arrived there and how to get home, like some kind of zombie killing Jason Bourne. This is a far cry from where we left Daryl in the finale of The Walking Dead, as he was last seen heading off on a secret mission for Maggie.

The Walking Dead series lore seems to suggest that Paris, France is the ground zero for the zombie outbreak, so it makes sense why Maggie would send Daryl there while trying to understand the science behind the infection, but what would cause Daryl to lose his memory and become trapped in the European country? We’ll just have to tune in to find out.

In addition to the Norman Reedus-led spinoff, we’re also set to receive The Walking Dead: Dead City, which will follow Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising their roles as Maggie and Negan, set in New York. We’re also on track to get a so-far untitled show dedicated to Rick and Michonne, as portrayed by Andrew Lincoln and Black Panther‘s Danai Gurira. Many fans were left begging for more of Robert Kirkman’s expansive zombie universe when The Walking Dead ended last year, so this new batch of spinoffs should serve as an embarrassment of riches.

With news of the main ensemble of actors being cast, more updates regarding The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is likely right around the corner. The show is currently filming in France, with an expected release in the latter half of 2023. With executive producers including Norman Reedus himself alongside former series showrunners Scott M. Gimple and Angela Kang, the show is nearly guaranteed to find success among the millions of core fans around the globe.
