12 Strong (2018)

12 Strong is the true story of the U.S. Army Special Forces who were sent to Afghanistan right after the September 11 attacks. This military movie is based on the non-fiction book, Horse Soldiers, written by Doug Stanton.

The movie stars Chris Hemsworth as Captain Mitch Nelson, a soldier who leads the Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) right into the heart of Afghanistan, where they battle the Taliban.

The terrain in which they fight is so rough that jeeps and Humvees could not be used, so they took the battle to the Taliban on horseback in what was the very first calvary attack in the 21st Century.

All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)

All Quiet on the Western Front is a remake of both the 1930 and 1978 films and is based on the 1929 novel of the same name. This military movie is brilliant in every sense of the word as it tells the story of Paul Bäumer, a young man who joins the German Army so he can fight on the battlefields during World War I.

What starts out as excitement to join and fight alongside his friends and fellow soldiers, quickly turns into the nightmare that was the trenches of a brutal war.

The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, taking home four for Best International Feature, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, and Best Cinematography.
