See Margot Robbie’s New Harley Quinn Costume, It’s Totally Different

Margot Robbie will be back in the saddle as Harley Quinn in the upcoming James Gunn film The Suicide Squad. The film promises to be both a sequel and a refresh for the DC property after the last iteration was not given the warmest of welcomes by critics. Along with that will come a brand new look for the series’ signature female character, Harley Quinn.
We have seen a few looks at what Margot Robbie will look like in The Suicide Squad, but writer/director James Gunn has just posted the cover for an upcoming issue of Empire, and it gives us a great look at this very different and very cool look for Harley Quinn.

It’s an undeniably badass look for the jester queen. More than any other character in the current DC cinematic universe, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn has gone through some pretty drastic wardrobe changes over the course of just three movies. In the original Suicide Squad, her standard outfit that we saw throughout most of the movie was the now-infamous “Daddy’s Lil Monster” get-up, seen here:
There was even a flashback sequence in Suicide Squad that gave fans a glimpse at a more traditional Harley Quinn costume which hearkened back to the character’s original design from Batman: The Animated Series:
When the character was given her own spinoff with the excellent film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), Margot Robbie underwent her first real significant costume change, resulting in looks that felt like a complete reinvention of the character and her aesthetic. And now we have yet another outfit to add to Harley Quinn’s ever-expanding and awesome wardrobe. This new leather outfit actually feels like her most combat-ready suit yet. It has an incredible attitude about it while still feeling distinctly Harley Quinn. Here is yet another snippet from the promotional material for The Suicide Squad:
What is even more exciting is that this will not be the only look Margot Robbie will be sporting in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Concept art of another outfit for Harley Quinn was revealed and it puts her in a very beautiful and traditional dress. Exactly what will be the context of this outfit for Harley in the movie? We will have to wait and see, but you can get a look at the concept art right here:
And in case you thought that might just be fan art, set photos were captured showing Margot Robbie wearing this exact dress during the shooting of a scene. You can see her in the dress along with writer/director James Gunn in this photo:
And speaking of James Gunn, the writer/director of The Suicide Squad also revealed a brand new illustrated poster during the DC FanDome event back in August. In the poster, you can see a number of the Suicide Squad members, including yet another look at the new Harley Quinn costume:
Harley Quinn has proven to be one of the most popular characters in the DC stable over the last decade or so. Margot Robbie’s portrayal of her in the DC cinematic universe surely plays a part in that. The character is also now headlining her own animated series which was just renewed for a third season on the streaming platform HBO Max. It is safe to say that Harley Quinn is here to stay, no matter what outfit she will be wearing.
Will Margot Robbie be sporting even more looks in The Suicide Squad? We will have to wait and see, but rest assured that the new James Gunn film is easily one of our most anticipated films of 2021. Once it gets released next year – currently slated for August 6, 2021 – we will be watching it as soon as we can. We look forward to all the awesome looks Harley Quinn will deliver, as well as all the damage she is going to do to so many bad guys.
