Loki Season 3 Canceled Before It Has A Chance?

By Zack Zagranis | Updated

Is Loki dead…er….again? A recent story in Men’s Health hints that a Loki Season 3 might not be in the cards for Marvel fans. Even if Disney decides against another go-round at the TVA, it’s a safe bet that the God of mischief will return to the greater MCU in some capacity.

No Confirmation Yet

To be fair, the fact that Loki has yet to be renewed for a Season 3 doesn’t necessarily mean the series is over. Loki Season 2 just ended—literally last night—and instant series renewals are rare, especially when it comes to the MCU on Disney+. As of right now, Loki is the only live-action Marvel series to receive even a second season on the streamer.

And even if Loki Season 3 does happen, it won’t be for a while. After all, the writers’ strike ended only a little while ago, and the SAG-AFTRA strike just ended. It’s going to take some time for Disney to get its affairs back in order, and Loki Season 3 might not be super high on their priority list at the moment. With the already predicted failure of The Marvels at the box office, Disney is going to have some more immediate concerns.

Loki Characters Will Likely Appear In Other Marvel Projects

Namely, whether or not this whole superhero grift is even worth pursuing anymore. Okay, that’s probably an exaggeration. No matter how much people like to salivate over the impending collapse of the MCU and Disney as a whole, brightly colored adventurers flying around shooting lasers out of their hands is still the studio’s bread and butter. A possible restructuring of their current MCU business model isn’t out of the question, however.

Regardless of whether Disney completely upends the MCU or keeps it mostly business as usual with a few tweaks here and there, don’t expect a Loki Season 3 before 2025. That doesn’t mean that Loki himself or Sylvie, OB, or any of the other Loki regulars couldn’t find themselves making an appearance in somebody else’s show or movie.

Tom Hiddleston Isn’t Ready To Depart

Tom Hiddleston himself is certainly in no hurry to leave the role of Thor’s moody younger brother. In 2021, Hiddleston made the comment that he would “hold on for as long as people want me to hold on for.” Given that the actor’s fiance, Zawe Ashton, just made her MCU debut as baddie Dar-Benn in The Marvels, it’s safe to say that Tom couldn’t escape Marvel right now if he tried.

The New Fan-Favorite Villain Miss Minutes Has Plenty Of Potential

As for whether the other actors would return for a possible Loki Season 3 or anywhere else in the MCU it’s entirely likely. Marvel has a history of signing its actors to multi-appearance contracts meaning that even if Loki Season 3 doesn’t happen, we most likely haven’t seen the end of Owen Wilson’s Mobius, Sophia DiMartino’s Sylvie, or even Tara Strong’s perky Miss Minutes.

What Could Season 3 Look Like?

In terms of what a Loki Season 3 could look like, it’s really anyone’s guess at this point. More He Who Remains variants are always out there, and time and space are always facing outside threats. We have a feeling, however, that Loki Season 3 might travel outside of the TVA.

Season 3 could involve Loki interacting with some of the MCU’s other popular characters as he first has to convince them he’s a quasi-good guy now and then has to convince them that Kang and his variants are an existential threat to the MCU.

No matter what the manner of Loki’s return fans will just be happy to see the lovable jerk again.
