Ride Along, starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, is one of the top streaming movies on Netflix.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish holds the top spot with Bird Box Barcelona at three.

Ride Along follows Ben Barber (Kevin Hart), a security guard and aspiring police officer who is determined to prove himself to his girlfriend’s tough cop brother, James Payton (Ice Cube). To prove that he is worthy of marrying James’ sister, Angela (Tika Sumpter), Ben accepts an invitation to go on a ride-along and spend a day in the field.

However, Kevin Hart’s character doesn’t know that James plans to take him through a series of dangerous and challenging situations to discourage him from joining the police force and marrying Angela. But things take an unexpected turn when they stumble upon a case involving notorious criminal Omar (Laurence Fishburne).

Ben and James are forced to put their differences aside and work together to solve the case, leading to hilarious and action-packed escapades. Released in January 2014, Ride Along was a commercial success, exceeding expectations at the box office.

Initially, Ride Along was set to star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson alongside Ryan Reynolds.

The film performed exceptionally well during its opening weekend, earning over $41 million, making it the highest-grossing film during that period.

It grossed over $134 million in North America and approximately $19 million in other territories, bringing the global total to around $153 million. However, Ride Along received mixed reviews from viewers and critics. While Kevin Hart’s and Ice Cube’s chemistry was praised, some found the plot to be formulaic and predictable.

Despite these criticisms, the film’s intended audience appreciated the entertaining action and comedic sequences, making it a popular choice for moviegoers seeking lighthearted fun.

Initially, Ride Along was set to star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson alongside Ryan Reynolds. However, the roles were recast due to scheduling conflicts, with Kevin Hart taking the lead.

Tim Story enjoyed a long history with Ice Cube before Ride Along. He collaborated with the NWA founder previously on 2002’s Barbershop and 2008’s First Sunday.

Ride Along 2

The moderate success of the movie led to the 2016 sequel, Ride Along 2, which reunited Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. The story picks up where the first movie ended, with Ben Barber now a full-fledged police officer.

This time Ben is determined to prove himself as a worthy detective. James Paytonreluctantly agrees to take Ben on another ride-along, this time to Miami, to track down a powerful drug lord named Antonio Pope (Benjamin Bratt). They are joined by undercover detective Maya Cruz (Olivia Munn) and informant/hacker A.J. Ken Jeong).

Kevin Hart and Ice Cube have developed a close friendship over the years, both on and off-screen. After working on both Ride Along films, Hart has spoken highly of Cube, describing him as “one of the most genuine, kindest spirits” and someone who wants nothing but good for others. He has praised Cube’s creative mind and his support for the people around him,

However, there have been some playful remarks between the two regarding Kevin Hart’s friendship with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Cube jokingly mentioned that Hart owes him “some money” during a podcast appearance, implying that Hart’s friendship with Johnson may have caused a rift between them. But the entire exchange was all in good humor.

Throughout his career, Kevin Hart has proven himself as a comedic force in Hollywood. Following his breakout role in Ride Along, the actor went on to star in several films within the action-comedy genre.
