The cast and crew of Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder look to be getting into full swing down under as new images have leaked from the set. Included in this are a couple of great photos of Karen Gillan, who is returning as Nebula, and who appears to have a new look about her.

Karen Gillan’s return as Nebula in the new Thor movie had been kept under wraps for some time until she confirmed her return when a fan asked her if she cut her hair to preparation for Nebula and the Scottish actor replied with a simple “yes.” The haircut, by the way, was something that Gillan actually negotiated. For her previous roles as Nebula, Gillan famously shaved her head.

Karen Gillan spoke at an Avengers: Endgame press conference in late 2019 and announced via the Daily Record, “I don’t have to shave my head. I negotiated more hair, which was a relief, although it’s actually very liberating being bald. The only downside is that being bald and this tall led to a lot of people mistaking me for a man.” Gillan stands at 5’ 11” so it is easy to understand her complaint.

To see what Gillan looks like with a full head of hair, Guardians director James Gunn tweeted out a happy birthday photo to Karen Gillan, showing her flashing a peace sign before she got into her Nebula make-up.

Karen Gillan recently tweeted out to fans her new hairdo, refuting the claim that she was wearing a wig.

Not only is Karen Gillan currently filming her part in Thor: Love and Thunder, but so are the other megastars in the production. Set photos also show Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, and Star-Lord, Chris Pratt, hanging out on set together. The pair are surrounded by equipment, sounds guys, and production assistants while Pratt and Hemsworth appear to be having a casual conversation.

If you recall, at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thor went back into space with the Guardians, so them (hopefully all) being part of Thor: Love and Thunder should come as no surprise.

Filming with Karen Gillan and the rest of the cast is taking place in Sydney, Australia, where the cast and crew first had to first isolate before getting clearance to work on set. Much of the film is being shot at Fox Studios down under, but they are also using nearby Centennial Park where the film crew has set up elaborate structures.

Along with Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, and Karen Gillan, other big stars of the movie have made their way to Sydney, also isolating before moving over to the production set. These include Natalie Portman, who is back as Jane Foster and who also, as has been announced, will be taking over the mantle of Thor. Tessa Thompson is back as Valkyrie and there has also been a Matt Damon sighting. Christian Bale and Jaimie Alexander will also be joining the Thor: Love and Thunder cast but have yet to be seen on set.

Another name that has found his way to Sydney along with Karen Gillan is Sean Gunn, who can be seen here, in full costume. Gunn returns as Kraglin. Gunn’s character was last seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and while it appeared he may join the crew, he was absent from Avengers: Infinity War, and his scenes during the end battle in Avengers: Endgame were cut. His return is interesting.

Even though Thor: Love and Thunder is finally into production, the movie is not set to release until May 6, 2022.
