As Aquaman 2 prepares to conclude the DCEU, reports of on-set issues have emerged, including claims that Jason Momoa might have been intoxicated during production. These allegations compound other challenges the film has faced, such as numerous delays and poor test screenings necessitating reshoots. A revealing Variety report detailed these concerns, with the main source appearing to be therapy session notes from Amber Heard’s meetings with her therapist, Dr. Dawn Hughes.

Amber Heard is said to have claimed that Jason Momoa appeared drunk on the set of Aquaman 2 and even dressed up like her ex-husband Johnny Depp.

Supporters of Johnny Depp funded the release of these session documents between Amber Heard and Dr. Hughes on December 27, 2021. These handwritten notes were part of last year’s trial, where Depp was largely successful. Unsurprisingly, these documents surfaced online, notably on Reddit.

In these raw session notes, Amber Heard is said to have claimed that Jason Momoa appeared drunk on the set of Aquaman 2 and even dressed up like her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. She also alleged that Momoa expressed a desire to have her removed from the film. Moreover, director James Wan was also portrayed as unsupportive of Heard, with allegations suggesting he treated her as an outcast due to her high-profile legal battle with Depp.

Also in Dr. Hughes’ session notes were allegations that others, not just Jason Momoa, attempted to have Amber Heard fired from Aquaman 2. Surprisingly, it wasn’t related to any lawsuit but rather an alleged lack of chemistry between her and Momoa. Heard’s continued involvement in the wake of her lawsuit with Jonny Depp became a subject of debate until Elon Musk’s legal team interceded with a strong warning to Warner Bros. in support of the actress.

A DC spokesperson countered the claims, asserting that Jason Momoa consistently behaved professionally. The spokesperson also defended James Wan, emphasizing his respectful treatment of everyone on set. Clearly, the waters are murky surrounding the making of Aquaman 2.

With the excitement for the film juxtaposed against the backdrop of these controversies, Aquaman 2 has certainly made waves before its release. Whether these undercurrents will impact its success remains to be seen. What’s certain is that Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will continue to be a topic of discussion in the months to come.

Aquaman 2 is set to hit theaters on December 30, 2023. James Wan directed the film from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Jason Momoa reprises his lead role, joined by a star-studded cast including Ben Affleck, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren, and Randall Park.

In the upcoming film, following his initial setback at the hands of Aquaman, Black Manta secures the formidable power of the Black Trident, using it to bring forth an ancient and malevolent force that threatens the world.

Recognizing the gravity of this new threat, Aquaman seeks an alliance with an unlikely ally, his once-estranged brother, Orm, who previously ruled Atlantis. In a compelling testament to the power of unity, the two set aside their differences and combine their strengths, embarking on a mission to safeguard their kingdom and prevent an impending global disaster.
