In his reply to a comment on his Instagram account, James Gunn confirmed the chronological order of the first two DCU projects. It’s not exactly a press conference, but it is the first definitive word we’ve heard from the DC Studios co-CEO regarding how he plans to organize the DCU timeline. Also, the comment and reply are on these adorable photos of art department dog Nora dressed as Krypto the Superdog and we can’t even handle it.

James Gunn gives a fan answers about the upcoming DCU timeline.

We don’t know where the Krypto movie will fall in the new DCU timeline, but we expect Nora’s agent will be in touch.

Gunn noted that the present DCU timeline is as short as it is because nothing else has been written yet, and nothing else will be written until the WGA strike is over.

The comment on these pup pics was from a fan who wondered whether there will be a viewable DCU timeline resource available like the one Marvel has for its projects. Gunn confirmed that, “Yes,” this will happen, and also mentioned the first two projects in the DCU pipeline. Creature Commandos is first up, followed by the much-anticipated Superman: Legacy. For the latter, Gunn also recently shared to Instagram a photo of the script’s cover page with his name listed as the author.

Gunn noted that the present DCU timeline is as short as it is because nothing else has been written yet, and nothing else will be written until the WGA strike is over. Until then, we won’t be seeing the rollout of the DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, but we do know the series and films that will be released during this opening phase. They are:

Superman: Legacy
Creature Commandos
Waller
Peacemaker
Season 2
Paradise Lost
Lanterns
Booster Gold
The Brave and the Bold
The Authority
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Swamp Thing

While these will generally be in chronological order within the DCU timeline, the Max series Paradise Lost is planned as a Wonder Woman origin story that will take place on Themyscira, centuries before the birth of Diana. Apart from this deviation, the projects will tend to line up chronologically with their release dates, meaning the stories will be set very much in the present.

This will likely put Waller chronologically just after Superman: Legacy as it is expected to be released near the time of Legacy‘s premiere.

After that, the Max series Peacemaker will see its second season premiere. The next film project after that will probably be The Authority, which is rumored to feature some superheroes from Superman: Legacy.

It’s also important to note that this constitutes an announcement from Gunn that the other projects in the DCU timeline have yet to be written. This will, of course, remain the case as long as the writers’ strike is ongoing. And nothing will happen on the production end either until the SAG-AFTRA strike is concluded.

Still, the Max series Creature Commandos is set to premiere in 2024. Whether or not Gunn can maintain that timeline will depend on the picket line.
