Everyone loves a good showdown. Batman vs. Superman was a comic book powerhouse (albeit a movie disaster). Iron Man vs. Captain America shattered every heart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And the Avengers vs. Thanos broke the world box office. However, every showdown doesn’t have to be about power vs. strength or violence vs. brutality. Sometimes, a showdown can be about which character is the cutest. In a shot across the Star Wars bow, Disney tries to out cute Baby Yoda with the new trailer for I Am Groot

In the new trailer dropped by Disney, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is declaring a war of adorable cuteness. Groot, the lovable twig and former tree of the Guardians of the Galaxy, is getting his own spin-off from his friends. While it won’t be a six-episode treatment like other characters, it will give the woodland teenager five shorts in a collection. While much of the details of the series are still undisclosed, the I Am Groot trailer gives us a good insight into what we can expect.

The trailer sees the young character (still a twig in this version) strolling along an unnamed landscape until he comes across a group of tiny beings that look like angry roly-polys arming themselves with turret guns and slingshots. There is a brief encounter resembling Tokyo firing on Godzilla before a leaf is dropped in front of them, causing them to cheer and begin scarfing. All we can think is from then on, he will be some sort of omnipotent being to the roly-polys, bringing them a flourishing food supply. The I Am Groot trailer then reveals fans will get to find out what happens next on August 10 on Disney+.

Disney is no stranger to adorable characters. They made their fortune on lovable friends children grow up on, from their animated films to their Disney channel specials. Once the powerhouse acquired Star Wars and Marvel, it was only a matter of time before the two were inundated with lovable characters of Disney’s caliber. Enter Baby Yoda (aka Grogu) and Groot. But what makes Groot cuter? Nothing really, but Grogu has spent his entire time as a side character in a much darker and more adult-themed series, The Mandalorian. The I Am Groot trailer promises a full five shorts of only Groot. There will be no distractions by an armor-clad bounty hunter or, even more frighteningly, Werner Herzog. Disney also announced the series on Twitter with a poster. The image sees Groot kicking back on a tree (maybe an ancestor?) surrounded by an assortment of furry/winged/leafy friends.

In the new world of spin-offs constantly streaming, nearly all of them are more profound character studies into darker elements of characters inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the Star Wars Extended Universe. The I Am Groot trailer offers a refreshing change of pace by giving us a carefree Groot, coming into his own and learning what it means to be a tree. The cast, as of now, only lists Vin Diesel returning with his extended vocabulary.
